Looks like WBA cruiserweight world champion Guillermo Jones has an opponent, date and location for the first defense of his title. Sources say Jones may be returning on February 27 in France against Valerie Brudov, the mandatory challenger. Apparently an agreement has been worked out between the parties involved and the WBA has called off a scheduled purse bid. It will be Jones first fight since winning the title in September 2008 by defeating Firat Arslan in Germany. Brudov has previously held the WBA interim cruiserweight belt.

Not that I know of, honestly this is the first I've heard of Jones since they said he was supposed to defend against Jean-Marc Mormeck last year.

Finally. WTF is with Don King and having guys fight only once a year and if they do half the time on the other side of the world from thier hometown.

How comes he was allowed to hold the beld (better to say to sit on it) for 1,5 years without defending it even once, without being stripped of the title long ago?

One would think WBA would name him "champion in recess" or whatever other laughable label they might think about, and stage several "interim" and other evenly laughable "championship" fights to collect some money...

Were there not some rule saying if the champion doesn't defend his belt in a given time, he loses the title? Of course WBA shits on its own rules as soon as it suits them (which happens every week or so lately...) but someone please explain to me how it can suit WBA to have a belt holder (better to say belt sitter...) who does nothing for 1,5 years and thus generates no money at all for for the WBA? Did they all get senile and forget they actually have a CW belt holder or what?

Partly because Brudov pulled out and partly because GBP and HBO have control and Don King dont and partly because Showtime just aint interested. Partly because guys like Jones and Cabillero are feared.

How in the world is JONES a disgrace to boxing? He's been stuck cuz of King and other things beyond his control. Jones is proven to fight anyone anywhere, and usually in a good fight, still shocks me he started i think at 154.

WBA is DKP's backyard, his fighters can do whatever they want as champs, no rules aply.

Just look at Khan and Maidana, they recently fought and are already being forced into a fight for the belt, purse bid and all.

The sad part is Jones is actually a good fighter, but he is up there in age, he could have had several nice fights in the past year, unifications, made some nice money.
