He knocked out Cintron...he is definitely not a slow fighter but he will get his just due eventually...

He is not an all time great but can be if he turns it up a bit...The guy just doesnt get the breaks...or the great matching most top tier fighters gain the benefit of...

Hey we all get things wrong man, the problem people have on this thread is the way you go about it.

I don't know which fights you 'Youtubed', but had you gone to recent ones you'd have seen him completely dominating Bunema and stopping him, and doing the same thing to Cintron, except the officials somehow managed to not only save him from the knockout but give him a draw !

However even if you had just looked at his record, if you had scrolled down a bit you'd have noticed he beat Richard Williams twice(stopping him once) and Adrian Stone(stopping him aswell). Now you're probably American so not too aware of the British scene, but both of those guys were very good fighters and beating them is certainly a good indication that a fighter has something about him.

He also went and ko'ed Saul Roman in 4 rounds.

    UD-Richard Williams
    KO-Adrian Stone
    TKO-Richard Williams
    KO-Saul Roman
    TKO-Alex Bunema
    MD-Kermit Cintron

I mean even just from looking at his record there in his most significant fights, without seeing him fight you can presume he's a dangerous fighter.

Statistics don't mean everything in boxing, it's what happened in the ring which counts.

Altough, at the time I can see the comparison, it's funny in hindsight now that Martinez gets a ton more respect on ESB for a controversial loss than Calzaghe gets.

Martinez beat the crap out of Williams! Williams looked like a fool. Martinez did not even have time to train! Can you imagine if Martinez had had time to have trained?!

Martinez was seriously under rated before the Williams fight. A lot of people thought Williams would knock Sergio out. I thought his habit of holding a low guard would get him in trouble, but it didn't.

However, the fact that he gave PW a hard time on one particular night does not Make Martinez an elite fighter. Is Carlos Quintana an elite level fighter? These days Martinez is a bit over rated based on a good performance against a guy whose primary defensive tool is his face.

I'd like to see a no bull**** rematch. Give Williams and Martinez a full 8 week camp to specifically prepare for each other, and see what happens.

Its no longer laughable. The slick mu****er got cheated against paul williams, he should have gotten the nod.I'm on the maravilla bandwagon now. He's fascinating to watch, he's improved a lot for the last couple of years. I hope he avenges his loss against the plaster of paris guy from mexico.

I would like to see a rematch on neutral territory, with neutral judges and ref.

martinez is the 154 version of clottey/collazo, not skillwise but in regards to markedability and o losing a debatable decision. Also there was the cintron scandal.

he didnt lose against peewee because he was a lesser boxer, he lost because peewee is a freak of nature physically. Had the size difference been just a bit less, he would have won.
