Below is the current top 10 rankings at Welterweight.

    Welterweight

    This content is protected

    1. Shane Mosley
    2. Manny Pacquiao
    3. Floyd Mayweather
    4. Miguel Cotto
    5. Joshua Clottey
    6. Andre Berto
    7. Luis Collazo
    8. Jan Zaveck
    9. Vyacheslav Senchenko
    10. Selcuk Aydin

Now i am going to start from way back.

In 2003 Ricardo Mayorga lost to Cory Spinks for the undisputed Welterweight title.

Spinks went on to beat, but later loose to Zab Judah in 2005.

Judah then lost to Carlos Baldomir in 2006.

Baldomir then lost to Floyd Mayweather in 2006.

At that time the rankings at Welterweight would have been.

    ESB Champ Floyd Mayweather

    1) Miguel Cotto
    2) Shane Mosley
    3) Paul Williams
    4) Antonio Margorito

By September 2008 Paul Williams who had lost to Carlos Qunitana (who Cotto beat in 5 rounds) but then beat him in a rematch had moved up to Light Middle/Middleweight and in November 2008 Miguel Cotto beat Shane Mosley. In December 2008 Mayweather beat Hatton and then retired. At that time the rankins will have been

    ESB Champ - Vacant

    1) Miguel Cotto
    2) Shane Mosley
    3) Antonio Margorito

So in July 2008 Margorito beat Cotto, leaving the rankins looking like this.

    1) Antonio Margorito
    2) Shane Mosley
    3) Miguel Cotto

In January 2009 Shane Mosley beat Antonio Margorito. Is he therefore the ESB Champion at Welterweight??

Should the same apply for Steve Cunningham. Adameck was ESB Champ and moved up? Cunningham has a win over Huck who is now ranked 2nd?

No, not for me - he isn't clear of Pacquiao enough to be established as 'champion'.

The Cotto-Margo-Mosley triangle makes this very difficult to call.

How was Mosley ranked above Cotto when he had lost to Cotto in his last fight at the weight?

For me I personally consider Mosley the man at the weight based on the Marga cheat o win, however he's not the best fighter. Pac is by some distance.

Why would Berto come into the equation?

Nope, if he beats Berto he just stays as number 1 he needs to beat Pac.

He shouldn't, I was wrong

I actually agree with Greg now, if he beats Berto he solidifies his postions as no.1

Floyd should be ESB champ. He is lineal and thus champ until beaten or in his absence someone unified.

Yes, he needs to beat either Mayweather or Pacquiao (or get beat by one) to become Champion in my eyes.

No, he shouldnt he retired and gave up his claim as Champion.

    Ok.

If Mosley is not champ beating Berto cannot put him to number 1. Only if he beats Pacquiao or Mayweather does he become Champ.

If Mosley beats Berto it accentuates his credentials for being the leading contender, he needs to beat the 2 mentioned to be champ.
