you have to include the fact that Cotto is a far bigger draw than Marquez. Also what did Floyd do with Gatti, Baldomir and Judah compared to Manny with Barerra and Morales??
No. Dan brought his resume into question. I said that has no bearing on the split. However I also said it's hardly a resume I would look down on. I did then say Floyd posts quality numbers. You posted numbers. The numbers between them seemed to justify a 50-50 split. I then looked at the bigger picture and noticed you were posting numbers for the last fight of rematches and trilogies for established rivalries and wars. Floyd on the other hand posted those numbers against guys coming off of losses, one hit wonders and small fighters. I think its fair to look at the bigger picture in that case.
I don't think it matters TBH, whatever figures are turned up both sides will say the opponent was a big factor or that the opponent didn't generate the PPVs, or whatever excuse suits their entrenched positions. Its a just a pissing contest at this point. This fight is between the biggest 2 stars in world boxing and we can argue about a few percentage points either way but no way is 50/50 an unreasonable split.
I posted those on the previous page. Mayweather vs Gatt (365k), Judah (350k), Baldomir (325k) Pacquiao vs Barrera II (350k), Morales III (360k), Marquez II (400k).
Approx 4,000,000 Puerto Ricans in the world Approx 106,000,000 Mexians in the world Even if Cotto is the bigger draw, Marquez has a much bigger 'fan base' to call on to sell PPV's. He only has to, for example, have 5% of the popularity that Cotto has to outsell him in sales from their countries, and I am sure he is more popular than that :good
The analogy isn't a great one and isn't needed. 154 is an adavantage to Floyd yet he conceeded and went with what Pac wanted. That's the point. I agree with your sequence of events. My point is that in the beginning it was a non issue but then it became slander etc as a result of Pacs teams reaction. Had they taken the test or negotiated it behind closed doors no one would think he was on drugs. He brought this on himself. Forrest said Mayorga was on drugs for taking his shots flush. Did anything come of that? No. Mayorga has never been accused of it by anyone else nor did he sue. Had Mayorga refused drug testing etc then it would have brought him into question. Had he also made some pathetic comments like I'm scared of needles or it affects his mindset then people would have laughed at him too.
But those were the fights that Mayweather was fighting. I can't post number for fights that he didn't have!
Unfortunately, there are alot of ways you can look at everything I'm discussing with other posters. I'm not saying it is unreasonable but Floyd did say no way would he do it but then conceeded.
True but I'd be suprised if his numbers were great even after the MAB fight. PAC vs Morales I and II would have been PPV.
Out of those 4 mill ALL of them support Cotto. Out of those 106 mil, not all support JMM and it's only until recently that JMM became a gunslinger and won some fans. Until then Mexicans didn't even give him the time of day. It was all MAB and EM.
Okay, but then do you not also think Team Mayweather should have raised their concerns behind closed doors as well? I think the whole thing, from both sides, has been handled terribly. It's clear who started though. Mayorga was never asked to take extra tests and neither were as high profile as Pac and May, who are household names. I had some random girl texting me about the fight, that's how big it's got.
If all of the Puerto Rican's support him, why was there only about 110,000 buys from the counrty for his biggest fight?
True but Floyd does hold the PPV record with DLH. Sure DLH was involved. But they weren't going to hit 2.44 without Floyd. They weren't brillant fights but Floyd was still fighting two one hit wonder champs and a guy coming off a loss. Everyone recognised that pre fight and expected him to win. Pac vs JMM and EM were 50-50 fights and some of the best wars of all time. People were buying great fights, with Floyd they were buying hype. These points must be considered. Either way it takes us away from the fact that Pacs reaction to drug testing is unwarranted. No matter what we discuss, that is my ultimate point.
Thats the same problem I have with the weight issue, it may conform to the dictionary of a "concession" but its only one because Mayweathers original position on the issue unreasonably favoured him. Strictly speaking Mayweater conceded both both issues but also in both cases the end position the 2 teams arrived at was the fair and sensible one. Neither is much of a concession to me they are just an indication that Mayweather was being a bit cheeky with his opening bargaining position (as is his right!) before settling down to the serious negotiations.
You know what I mean. 100,000 buys per 4 million equals 1.5million buys if it was in the UK. Not a dodgy number.
