Bernard Hopkins was the Undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World. Roy Jones was the black Superman, the Fighter of the 90's. Joe Calzaghe was a obscure belt holder from Wales.

Can you work out from this, whom should be chasing a fight with whom?

the biggest difference between the two is floyds whole career was about maximizing profit while joe's was only goal was to remain champ.

 

Jones chased a Heavyweight Championship, and a prime James Toney - who'd already beaten Nunn and McCullum. Calzaghe chased a geriatric Hopkins and Mario Veit all the way to Germany (sorry, I couldn't resist).

Really? It's elementary, my dear Will. Both Hopkins and Jones had paid their dues. They had taken those tough fights that were pretty much pickums. Jones was an undefeated fighter when he challenged James Toney, who was consider the best middle weight in the world at the time. I pretty sure Toney was favored to win that fight. Hopkins took great riskes as well fighting guys like Jones (and losing) and then fighting guys that no one wanted to fight, like Winky Wright. He also challenged several undefeated champions like Jermaine Taylor. Calzaghe never did that. Not until the very end of his career.

 

I'll add this....... and it applies to both guys........ when it all comes down to it, you fight who you fight. There are a lot of reasons why fights that could be made end up not being made. Some may be their fault, some the other guy's, and some nobody's fault, or just circumstantial.
But, your record reflects who you actually fought and when you fought them. So coulda, woulda, shoulda..... fought guys doesn't mean much. Guys will be judged by the guys on their resume, and appropriately so.
