Kelly Staphlik hasn't had a meaningful fight against a middleweight in almost three years. He is done.
This is a post you wrote 2 weeks before the SM/PW fight, so you can stop making it seem as if after the fight with Martinez PW wanted to go down to WW and that he cant handle being at MW! Point is that Team Williams had Already givin up on Kelly Pavlik!
if a fight can't be made then a fight can't be made. it sucks but sometimes that's the way it is. but if williams really believes he can whip kelly as many of you all do, then an opportunity to make a **** ton of money becoming the mw king is something that should be considered....regardless of what has happened in the past.
True story: This content is protected Believe it if you want, but Peterson has stated very publicly that he is done with Pav. This content is protected . Regardless of what Booradley speculates, Williams and Co. have never been scared of Pavlik. But enough is enough. How many times do you want this guy to sign a contract without any assurances or guarantees? What if he had pulled the same move against Pavlik? What would you guys be saying then?
fair enough. what assurances and guarantees do you think would reassure williams' camp? be fair here...no $ 10,000,000 per pound nonsense
I cannot really say... I haven't thought too much about it, but I think some sort of clause guaranteeing reimbursement plus a stiff penalty for loss of time (and ultimately wages) if Kelly pulls out for whatever bad or good reason... would be along the lines of fair. And maybe some sort of payment for what was already lost, perhaps in the form of an increased percentage...:huh
Williams's camp has made it pretty clear that they do not want the Punisher to get punished by Pavlik in the ring ....
given what has happened in the past i don't think asking for some type of assurances is unreasonable. camps are expensive and time is valuable especially to a fighter. i dunno what goosen would be looking for or what arum would be willing to give but even if both guys come off their positions even just a little they would still be making the biggest mw fight both in terms of magnitude and $$ in quite some time.
Bottom line, and that IS what pro boxing is about, I don't think Williams can do better than the offer on the table from Arum at the moment. A poor outing and Arum could pull that offer.
yeah i hear ya herm. its not my life or livelihood so i can't really fault anyone for sticking to their guns. but as a pavlik fan i want this fight to happen.
Like I said in earlier postings. I overheard some of Kelly's folks talking about the Williams/Martinez fight. It only reaffirmed what they already believed would be the outcome of a Williams/Pavlik fight. I think Kelly gave up too much in those negotiations already to get some momentum back. If he fights Martinez, he doesn't need Williams for that. If Goosen doesn't take it now, I don't think the fight gets made.
