Mike McCallum vs. Rubin 'Huricane' Carter

Carter had the meanness but McCallum had the skills to beat him.

 

McCallum outboxes him to a UD or late stoppage. Carter could bang but a big puncher isnt taking out a durable defensive master like McCallum

 

McCallum by decision. I wonder how great Carter could've been had he not wrongly been imprisoned. He did beat Griffith. Off topic but I think he's way more deserving to be in FNR4 than Mundine and Mora(yuck!).

His career was all but over when he went to prison.

Carter had more than just power but I'm afraid he would have been the ideal match-up stylistically for the clever and durable McCallum.

 

Carter being an aggressive puncher would push McCallum to his limits or damn near it, but Mike has adequate skills to pull out a points win IMO.

 

McCallum.Cagey boxers beat Carter.

 

It'd be foolish to say Carter couldn't pull an upset because, well, we know he could do that. But he's still not in McCallum's league. He wasn't in Griffith's either, by the way.

 

Mike would be too clever for the Hurricane. A wide decision for McCallum.

 

I'm inclined to agree, but I am biased on this issue!

Carter was past it when he was incarcerated,he was a good but not great fighter,losses to Giardello,Rodriguez ,Tiger,and Harry Scott show this.

Carter won just 1 of his last 5 fights and drew in another ,his imprisonment was not a factor in his career.
There are a quite a few people who knew Carter who are not at all sure he was innocent of the charges he was convicted of.
When he came to the UK he carried a handgun in his luggage which he gave to Mickey Duff to unwittingly carry through customs,later Duff was summoned to Carter's hotel by staff because he had fired it in his room, he was by no means an innocent .

 

carter is over-rated and mccallum under-rated.mccallum would **** it and win at a canter.
