I am looking to have my first amateur fight in a little over 10 weeks time at middlweight, my weight is 75kg, but most of that is in my legs (i rowed as a teenager) and I am quite thin in my upper body.
I want to bulk up upstairs, and lose weight on my legs.
How can I lose weight on my legs and build mass up top?
    Thanks

Your body sounds the same as mine from that, no matter what I do, my legs are massive compared to my upper body. Think this is because I used to weigh 17 stone but am now around 75 kgs. I've done more middle-long distance runs than anything too but it just won't happen for me. I'm happy the way I'm built, I think it gives me an edge in stability and you can still transfer the weight well for power punching.

  3. Contracting your muscle over low-medium impact endurance exercises will cut those babies down.

Like cycling or medium distance running. Or laying a game of basketball tennis soccer will do the same thing (and be good for boxing). Lot of skipping also.

Might want to be aware that during boxing training your legs should lose whatever muscle you don't need anyway.

    Hope that helps.

why would you even bother my legs are big the only real way to reduce your leg size and bulk up is to do more upper body work and dont do your legs as much

I thought sprints were really good for it, I'd agree to cycling though I lost like 5 kg in 3 weeks of muscle.

  6. Oz Puncher I have become very lean lately due to cardio. Trying to work out how to stop it from happening and the only thing I can think of is a change nutrition.

So you are boxing, and you want to lose muscles in your legs, and build up some beach muscles in your upper body? You might as well have started a "I punch too hard, and need to lose power thread".
Boxing and body building/shaping don't mix. You may need to lose weight or gain weight, but don't be concerned about aesthetics. Power is mostly from the legs anyway.

    SPOT ON!

The first thing Freddie Roach did with Amir Khan was change his body shape. He increased his leg size and decreased his upper body.

**** losing muscle in the legs. You see these ****s with ripped upper bodys and skinny legs thinking their proper hard when really most your power comes from the legs. Just do you thing man, your body will naturally shape whilst you box.

Erm....yes he did, it's a well known fact which is obvious for all to see.

    Adam Smith - Sky Sports........

Alex Arizo is the new conditioner who has been working on explosive, ballistic training with Khan to harden the inner core.
Alex is also changing the Khan body. One thing I noticed with Khan earlier in the year is how thin his legs were. Amir was always going on about his 'chicken legs'. Well they are beefing up. They look stronger and thicker, and if there is a weakness taking shots, this might help his cause in tricky times ahead.
His upper body is not as huge; they have straightened him up and say he will be far more flexible. The one lady on the team is the highly dedicated Teri Tom, Amir's dietician. She has been measuring his body fat from bitterly early every morning.

If Kahn's body fat percentage was 1% he'd be dead.
