Roberto Duran vs Felix Trinidad at 154

So does the ageing veteran make Trinidad look foolish or does Tito's relentless pressure and body attack wear down the slightly fleshy Duran?

The blueprint to beating Trinidad was lateral movement ala De la Hoya and Hopkins, and Duran is perhaps the most multi faceted fighter of all time. However he had great stamina and the 15 round distance would probably have benefited him, allowing him to KO De la Hoya and David Reid. Its a pick em fight for me.

A body-punching clinic against a tall fighter w/out the best defense. It's a better fight w/ Duran prime and Tito prime at 147.:rasta

 

Not many one-dimensional fighters this side of Monzon are going to beat Duran. And Tito ain't one of them.

 

Never thought too much of tito, but the guy had balls and a wrecking ball hook. However despite the size and power advantage I think he'd be stylistically ripe for a schooling against duran. wouldn't be surprised to see tito dropped with a counter right en route to losing a decision.

 

I put it at 154 because who in all honesty would pick Tito over the Montreal Duran? But at light middle when he had slowed down a bit and was more hittable then it is a much more even fight.

Meh,fair enough it would seem the consensus is with Duran but i do feel Trinidad is underrated on these forums. Statements such as 'he couldn't box for ****' are underrating him. I wonder how many statements like that were made after he beat the **** out of William Joppy? Lol

 

His style against William Joppy makes no difference. He never "boxed for ****" in that fight at all, so what you talking about? He punched the head of Joppy with bombs, rather than boxing him. :good

 

Joppy was a "paper" champ at 160 and already slipping by 2001.... Plus, Joppy's chin was made from China........ We all know Trinidad could punch, but his skills and chin were very suspect........ Trinidad was lethal at 147 pounds cuz he was so big and powerful for the average welterweight contender....... Trinidad won titles at 154 and 160 from two beatable dudes in "Reid and Joppy."

And everyone knows Joppy massacred Duran in 1998 when Duran was aged 147 yrs old....... That fight meant and proved nothing..... Duran was shot........

Duran asserts himself early with big counter punches and lead rights forcing Trinidad to think twice before commiting to a big punches/combinations giving Duran the edge he needs to get inside and systematically break Tito down, forcing a late stoppage

 

Duran also had defense when motivated and focused; Trinidad's defense sucked.... Tito was there to be nailed.......

NO! Duran came into a different element / era come 1981 when he made his comeback against Nino Gonzalez........... Duran would no longer strain to make 147 pounds anymore, and 154 was his new objective, but Duran was becoming lazy and having trouble even making 154 pounds at age 30 in 1981..... Christ, Duran was a hefty 156 for Nino Gonzalez........ By 1981, Duran could no longer guarantee victory like he could prior to Ray Leonard in New Orleans.......... Duran became mortal and beatable above 147 pounds, so intense training was the hot ticket for Duran come post 1980........ After the 'Leonard' rematch / fiasco, Duran was really never the same......... BUT! The dude / vato fought for another 20 yrs as a pro..... His last fight was a dec. loss to Camacho in 2001 in Colorado...... Duran was age 50....... JESUS!!

This one is a tossup. I'll go out on a limb and say Trinidad on points, being the bigger guy and harder hitter, though it could go the other way as well.
