Roberto Duran vs Felix Trinidad at 154

A duran in top condition tko's trinidad in th late rounds. Too skilled, smart and experienced. Also possessed the chin to take titos shots.

Yeah you know if Duran lost it would have been because he was too green (De Jesus 1) or too drained (Leonard 2) or didn't get over the "no mas fight" (Benitez) or didn't train properly (Hearns).

 

It'd be Duran's fight to lose but that doesn't mean he wouldn't lose. I'd favor him though.

 

Duran is much better fighter than Felix, Duran wins this with tko mid rounds.

I'd give Felix a decent chance of taking Duran out if he comes into the fight in Benitez/Hearns shape. But if Duran trains seriously for the fight he should have no problems with Tito and outbox him for a clear decision.

 

Duran could be pretty up and down at 154. The razor-sharp Duran who weighed 152 against Davey Moore would probably kayo Tito. The Duran of the Hearns fight would probably be kayoed himself. If Duran is well-trained and motivated he would win. If not, then he stands a good chance of losing because Tito was one helicious puncher in his own right.

 

Quite wrong. Duran is actually among my favorites to watch. And I did not say with any certainty that Felix would win. But I honestly don't like Duran's chances against a lot of bigger guys who hit harder at divisions where Roberto is overweight and tires considerably quicker.

I will be the first to agree that Duran was unstoppable at LW and for the most part, at WW.

At 154 and 160 Duran certainly had his moments. But could he consistently be dominant at those weights as well? I don't think so.

I'd pick Duran in a heart beat at 147 but at 154 Durans slowing and getting stuck in the mud against the much more athletic Trinidad it makes it a closer fight and maybe a back and forth war. Duran still has far more skill and defense but Titos speed and rangyness compensate and Tito depsite being outboxed, never really got outfought
