Someone, one of his doctors who's treating him in Puerto Rico has said that Wilfred is borderline, or mildly ******ed. Take that for what you will.
More than anything else, I thought Benitez's chin was so-so. During his prime, though, this wasn't a serious problem for Benitez because virtually nobody could hit him cleanly.
at his best he had no weaknesses... he could punch, box & fight defensively. he was gr8, though only for a little while. & now he can't even write his name.
Someone said he had a problem with his chin but I dont think he did. you'd have to hit him hard and often as we saw in the Hilton fight. I remember reading the article saying he was borderline ******ed also but as usual, recieved most of the brain damage by staying around too long. See Ali, Norton, Hearns, Norris
Norton was involved in a horrific car accident in the mid-80's that affected his motor skills and speech. His car went over a guard rail on the LA freeway and was crushed. He was very lucky to survive and, for the most part, to be okay and functional today. Maybe he would still have some slurring from his career but not nearly as much as he does now if not for the accident.
A 15 -17 year old sparring or fighting grown men probably hurt his brain. I remember seeing him in his prime one time on TV and he was yelling about being "The Dragon". He just didn't seem to be just "right".
Willie Benitez' weaknesses are: Too much natural talent that caused lazy training excercises later in his career, and a lack of real physical strength / punching power........ PLUS! He started at 3 yrs of age for Christ sake........ Starting at 3 made him great by age 18, and burned out by age 23................. By age 26, Willie Benitez was shot to hell in a handbag......... TRUTH! MR.BILLhat
