To say they "owe" us might be a bit strong.

All sport is nothing but entertainment and like any other form of entertainment, the participants are there to please to viewers.

If they choose to not take big fights or competitive matchups they'll suffer. If they fight the best out there and put their heart and soul into it, they are bound to do well.

I don't think they owe us but they should pay us a lot more respect.

The problem with pro sports is that most guys think they are doing the world a favor by displaying their talents. NO! The world is doing you a favor by paying good money to watch what you are so good at!

i dont see eather one doing the other a favor.... its one person getting something for providing something for another. Nobody is doing the other a favor, imo.

When i pay to see a fight, im not doing them a favor.... I am paying money for a fight i deem worthy (well, often its not worthy but i love boxing so i do it anyways lol) They are providing me with combat entertainment, and i am supporting them financially in exchange.... but i wouldnt classify it as a favor, a favor would be a fan buying a complete bull**** ppv (lets say like kellys last fight) even though they really dont care to see it, but they do it just to show their support anyways, and even then, your paying because of what that fighter has done up till that point to make you a fan, but that i could see being more of a favor. When i buy Mayweather vs JMM, im not doing anyone a favor, im paying money to see these two combatants in action against eachother....

    Just IMO

    Don't like it? Don't watch.

They don't owe us anything. When you die do you plane to leave X% of your money to your favorite boxer's kids? Nope. So why do they owe you anything.

If they aren't doing you a favor by training hard and putting their lives on the line then GO AWAY. From where I am standing it looks like they enrich your life.

Hang on, if they were doing that for free you may have a point.

But they're doing it for a ****-load of money not you or I.

Im not saying they owe us but you're going too far the other way.

I think it's the boxers responsibility to reward their fans with good fans. If Im going to pay £1000 to go and see a British boxer in Vegas, I think they owe it to me to turn up in the best shape possible and make good fights in the future.

Fans own a boxers career. It's up who make of break them, not promoters, fighters or journalists. I think the fighters do owe it to us, to entertain us as much as possible.

Thats why I can't help but like Hatton, a guy not truly elite, who got battered twice for his fans. Gatti, who put everything on the line, for big money or not. Chacon, who paid a massive price for the fans. Kim, who paid the ultimate price.

Of course they owe the fans, even more so than athlete's in other sport, because in boxing a fighter's fan base is DIRECTLY related to his income. In no other sport is that as strongly the case. So if a fighter gives enough rotten performances or ducks enough top competition, their fan bases dry up and they stop making money.

Hell no, they dont owe anyone ****. They do all the fighting in the ring, we in turn watch.....

Thats how buisness works, they get to fight for glory and money, we pay to watch entertainment.

Its a win/win situation for everyone
