Again, I thought Chavez bringing in Manny Steward was lame........ After the loss to Randall, Chavez fired his trainer Jose "Buffalo" Martinez and went with Steward..... Lame..... Martinez was later killed in a car crash in Spain..... Steward didn't do **** for Chavez in 1994......... But he got paid good..... Argh!! MR.BILL
The part of not wanting to fight Randall in the first place is true, but not for the reasons you stated. ........When King inked Chavez to fight Randall in January of 1994, Chavez had fought 6 times in a span of less than a year, the Randall fight made it 7 times in less than a year. ......in any regards when King brought the news to Chavez that he was fighting Randall, Chavez did'nt want the fight in January, because he had been so busy fighting 6 times in 2003, and he did'nt want to spend the Christmas and Newyear holidays away from his family training. The end result was that Don King convinced Chavez that Randall was a sitting duck easy fight, and the rest was history. At the end of that first Randall fight, you see Chavez very angry asking for Don King, and my explanation above was the reason for his anger........Chavez who had'nt done his homework knew very little about Frankie Randall......and he found out the hard way that Randall was better than what King had talked to him about.
I'm not for absolute certain, but I think you're wrong on that Bill......... First off his name was Martin "Buffalo" Martin. Cristobal Rosas, also Salvador Sanchez' trainer, was Chavez' Chief trainer who guided him to prominence. Buffalo I dont believe was ever listed as Chavez' chief trainer, but he did most of the talking in Chavez corner because he was a master motivator. Emmanuel Steward was a one fight deal for Chavez. I dont believe Buffalo ever got fired, he just took a back seat that night when Chavez rematched Randall. ........btw, I had great respect for Martin "Buffalo" Martin, may he RIP....... With both Cristobal Rosas and Buffalo Martin having passed, Chavez' training team was full of "yes" men.....not a sound, diciplined boxing trainer in the group to put Chavez in his place when he was slacking in training. Chavez missed the dicipline, the motivation, and the passion that Buffalo brought to team Chavez. Buffalo's name rarely gets mentioned in the same sentence with great trainers, but by God I'm saluting him right now as I write this post!:thumbsup
No wonder they called him Buffalo. Who names their kid Martin Martin? Anyway, you dont think by the second fight Chavez realized Randall was all wrong for him? He certainly had more time to prepare in the second fight, and when Randall dropped that righthand in the first or second and Chavez almost went down, I think Chavez went, oh miedra!
Their were Cristobal Rosas and Jose "Buffalo" Martinez and they were Chavez' main dudes.......... Rosas was axed by Chavez after his first loss to Randall in Jan. 1994....... Manny Steward was brought in as the lead man to repair whatever was ****ing up with Chavez......... "Buffalo" Martinez stayed as an assistant to work with the team, but, he got killed in a car crash while on his off time..... MR.BILL:deal
Then again, perhaps it was Cris Rosas who was canned after his loss to Randall.?.? At any rate, people were fired from Chavez' team after his loss.......... I love how fighters get pissed and reach out and attack members from their own team after a loss........ But I still say hiring Manny Steward was some political bull****........ NOW! In the case of Mike Tyson, I can understand wanting to fire John Horne and Rory Halloway after his '96 TKO loss to Holy and the ugly rematch affair of 1997.... MR.BILL
I just might pop open my Jim Beam and roll a fatty and review "Chavez-Randall" 1 & 2 for the heluva tonight........ Chavez got real lucky in the rematch.... Chavez sure had some amigos' looking out for him.... Randall was reamed by that technical dec........ MR.BILL
frankie Randall really got screwed in that rematch with JCC...it should have been ruled a tko in favor of Randall so that a third fight between them would have been unnecessary.
Dont know why the heck I wrote Martin "Buffalo" Martin......:?......Its Jose "Buffalo" Martin. .......but you're making a mountain out of a mole hill Bill......Cristobal was getting old, and he parted ways with Chavez as his chief trainer on friendly terms. ......in fact, Cristobal remained on Chavez' payroll as an advisor.......and he had been getting paid as Chavez' chief trainer even though it was Buffalo who gave most if not all the instruction in Chavez' corner. When Steward was brought in for the Randall fight, Chavez' team remained intact. One thing you cannot accuse Chavez of is blaming his trainers for his defeats........you must have Chavez confused with DLH on that issue.
No... Chavez just blames the ref and anyone else near the ring at the time when suffering a loss............ Chavez was good at whining late in his career......... hi: MR.BILL
......then why did you bring and criticize Chavez for the trainer issue of it. Its obvious and apparent you're here only to bash on Chavez and not debate on the issue that you yourself brought up. .....I'll leave that for you to do for yourself, I'm out!:hi:
Kool, Divac....... BUT! I am NOT a huge 'Chavez' fan at all........ Never was, either........ No offense to Mexico.............. I am a 'Duran' jocksniffer to the max............ Been so since '80........... Peace....... :bbb MR.BILL
We're you a Pernell Whitaker fan, and if so why? He was just as much a whiner about losing if not more so than Chavez. When you have competitors like that, they hate to lose.
"They did to me again Larry!" But you are right Pernell did his fair share of whining and moaning himself after the De La Hoya loss, but overall Chavez is more of a whiner and excuse maker.
