I looked at his match were he destroyed Biggs today and thought,"Why did Bowe always get into weird fights?". I mean he has Holyfield 2, Golota 1 & 2, Tillery 1, Coetzer. What's up with that:huh
I know what you mean, throwing that belt into a bin is right up there too! his fight with litle Herbie hide was a strange one, hide was winning the exchanges when he was on his feet but herbie just couldnt stand up too long without going over and bowe looked close to exhaustion! lol! what about when he launched mathis junior when he was down, i will never forget that either!
Yeah the Ferguson fight was also weird because it appeared that he was down for more than 10 seconds but the ref counted VERY slow. Bowe toke him out in the 2nd round though very quickly. I don't think it was even more than a few seconds into it.
He also should have been DQ'd for hitting Mathis while he was down, but somehow the fight was ruled a NC.
I was going to mention the Mathis fight too. Bowe was just a mean guy at fight time. He took the fight to his opponents. He wasnt very friendly with his opponents. Even after him and Evander Holyfield became close friends, and Holy attended his kids birthday party, they still tried to kill each other after the bell in the third fight. Bowe was a fighter with a good mean streak, somethings thats gone from todays bunch.
I wonder if Bowe had met a whole string of all time great champions, how many of them would result in controversial outcomes... Frankly, I think Bowe vs Tyson had the potential to get ugly had it ever occurred.
Who knows, you might be right. Tyson also had a history of being in strange situations in fights like obviously the Holyfield rematch or the Orlin Norris fight where Tyson hit Orlin after the bell in the first round and Orlin supposedly broke his leg, or when Tyson kept trying to throw punches when the ref fell down while trying to stop the fight back in the late 90s I believe, forgot the opponents name.
Tyson - Bowe is one of the best 'never to have happened' fights in modern times. Especially when you consider their temperment, ring personalities and where they both came from. Definitely would have been a riot.
There was also that tussle with Larry Donald before their fight, which was way more entertaining than their actual fight! Sometime in 1990, Riddick got stuck in Bowezarro world and he's never been out since. This is a man who signed up to the marines, despite having no discipline; a man who mitigated his jail sentence based on the claim he was brain-damaged, then went back to boxing. Just a bizarre man in bizarre circumstances.
And nothing compares to the prefight stuff surrounding the Gonzalez fight. They were throwing water glasses at each during the press conference.
Me too. Made Tuesdays great for TV, and we got to see all the young prospects making their way up the ranks. I actually heard USA did ok financially with that series, but the new CEO didnt like boxing and wanted to get out of it.
