It was a very good write up. Any chance of you boys showing your faces on the night? Bobby takes care of most of that stuff, so I will only have about 20 tickets on my end. Adam was on to me already about going. As well as the Awards themselves I'd like to get chatting to a few of you lot about organising trips to fights, classic fight nights etc. Give me a shout.
I seem to remember certain foke playing down the importance of the Irish title when Patrick went and fought for the IBA Intercontinental and IBF International titles, and yet now he's back fighting for them ? There probably isn't a better available contender than Coveney, but why would Patrick want to stay at Irish title level when he has the ability to do things at European level. Patrick still hasn't broke into the European rankings(he's in the EU), so why not fight a ranked contender instead ? Working towards a fight with Alex Miskirtchian(EU champ) later this year would be a good idea imo and a clash with Cyril Thomas by the end of it. The Sequera fight was acceptable as he was a late replacement for Kiilu. But this fight just does nothing for Pajo.
I think Poonsawat has come on leaps and bounds since he met Sidorenko. As I said, I don't think he is the most skilled fighter out there but I do think that very solid chin of his coupled with his power are enough to see him past most in the divsion. Cordoba, I won't be giving him chances against Poonsawat until he shows a move back up in class in his post-Dunne rehab. Mathebula looks awkward but not awkward enough IMO. And I'd have to agree on Escalante, I think he goes in charge of the light brigade and gets starched earlyish. I think the one most likely to happen is Hasegawa. His step up seems inevitable and I think Poonsawat has even mentioned the matchup in interviews. He's knocking people our for fun at the minute at BW but, while it shouldn't pose a problem, he'd be wise to have at least one fight at SBW before facing off against Poonsawat. And if they did meet I'd still give the Thai the edge
Pajo aint faught since Bernard Dunne lost his title....And this is the fight Brian Peters offered him....So why not take it as a warm up fight....Anyway Covaney has been in with great opposition lately and with another fight against Bhaitha next too...Hes had 3 good fights since Pajo last faught so he might be a good test
the Murray bill - 13th of Feb I think. Bhatia could stop Covaney - wouldnt that disqualify him from fighting again for a month?
