Good luck to Taylor in whatever he decides to do in, and with his career.
It cant be said that Taylor ducked challenges. He beat Hopkins, then gave him an immediate rematch, fought Winky straight after that. Even after losing to Pavlik by KO he went straight back in the ring with him in his next bout after (at super middle). Then still as a super middle fought Lacy, Froch & Abraham.
Win or lose he gave his all.

If you were doubting yourself though and knew you had a short break before beginning training again to be in the ring with the likes of Ward/Kessler.. would you do it? I am not doubting he may have a chance against Ward but once he starts doubting himself it makes it a definite uphill task.

Graham Earl wanted to fight on against Khan.

    Would you have let him?

I'm sure a former linear world champion doesn't base his decicions on how best to proceed with his career on the views of 'armchair boxing fans'.

it was hard to root for the guy for me.thank god kelly pavlik came along.then after the pavlik fights i cut him slack and was like ok hes alright.after the froch fight i just started to feel sorry for him cus i know he is alwyas trying his hardest.

I respect him. He is young and needs to keep his health.

Yeah I'm sure he is reading ESB day and night. You are getting too emotional the guy earn a lot of money and is going to enjoy them now with his family. I don't see the problem and I don't see the reason for him to take another beating from Ward.

Idiot. He came to the decision on his own - perhaps when he felt he had lost the spark during his recent training, perhaps as a result of wanting to protect his health and be around for his family.

Whatever the situation that lead for him to take the high road and leave his boxing career at this point it was his decision and his alone. You might not like it but you should respect it rather than playing the blame game.

I think you've intentionally head-butted too many people, friend. Jermaine had been kayoed in 3 of his past 4 fights. If he were an NFL quarterback he likely would have been forced to retire. Fact is, he no longer has it. That is clear enough from his knocks, all of which were brutal and may have caused permanent damage. Hopfully Jermaine is alright...but if he had continued, his chances for a normal life in the future would be greatly diminished.

Every now and again I read a new thread and it is clear that a poster is just trying to egg people on and irritate them with a series of ridiculous statements. This is just such a post. :patsch

You miss the point. It was indirect influence. He listens to his family, to Hayman, to those in his camp. You don't think they were pushed over the edge by all of his fans and the boxing media urging and begging him to step out for the sake of his health?

No I don't think they give the slightest credence to that at all.

i'm very torn. i hate seeing him go out like this, but at the same time i don't want to see him get hurt permanent. he has some mileage. hell anyone would with the resume he has.

he's a favorite of mine so if he really thinks this is the best decision then i'm all for it.

IB, i see where you are coming from though.

zack, if all champs had the sack to get in the ring w/ the level of competition taylor has then no one would have an unblemished record. fighters who "arent that good" don't give bhop that hard of a fight twice...win lose or draw.

No. If this is what Taylor had wanted deep down, he'd have announced it the night he was cleared from the hospital after the KO loss to Abraham. He got railroaded into this - promoter bailed on him as a publicity stunt like a big fat drama queen, then his trainers and family start tugging at his collar, whispering in his ear. His mind was made up for him by everyone EXCEPT Jermain Taylor.

That, by the way (Abraham) is the only fight in which he hasn't looked very good. Those in the "Taylor's shot", "Taylor doesn't have it anymore" camp only have that one performance to base that on. He was beating Pavlik (the first time). He was beating Froch. He looked fine against Lacy.
