I expect alot of you will disagree with me, but ive got a feeling that if they meet Carl Froch will give Andre Ward a real tough fight. Ward had a good win over Kessler, but his win over Miranda didnt seem to have the same impact as Pavliks or Abrahams (2nd time) win over Edison, also Ward has been put down by lesser punchers than Froch. Froch was able to overcome Pascal a fast fighter with some aggression, and Dirrell (I thought it could have gone either way but the 2 reports I read on the fight in The Ring & Boxing News both had Froch a winner) a fast slippery defensive fighter. With Frochs strength and punch, I against the odds think he might beat Ward. Think it would be a good match all the same. What you think?
Well Ward doesn't have Abraham or Pavlik punching power so he makes best with what he has like smarts. Froch is very predictable and could give Ward problems but I see Ward clinching him and setting the pace of the fight. I predict a decision for Ward. Hell this fight should be much better than Dirrell-Froch not taking away from Dirrell but he showed too much respect for Froch's power and could've won in a decisive manner.
i dont even think it'd be classed as an upset! froch has beat Reid, Pascal, Taylor and Dirrel. he has a good resume, a good chin, better power and great stamina. ward is more aggressive than dirrel an for that reason froch wins by ko
Froch is gonna give anyone a tough fight. Its hard to beat a guy that believes he cant lose. Froch has great power, is very strong physically, cant fight dirty, and is damn hard to keep off. Sure he can be outboxed, but you must do it every minute of every round. Like Emmanuel Steward said, its not Froch's skills that make him so dangerous, but his mental mindset of believing he cant be beaten and refusing to lose. He is a "kill em to beat em" type fighter
A few points: 1. The Miranda fight is not relevant. Anyway, Ward was never going to blow Miranda away in the same way Pavlik and AA did; he doesn't fight that way. So he out-boxed him to a fairly comfortable win. 2. Pascal is no Ward. He's just not as good. His defence isn't the same, he doesn't control the distance as well as Ward, he doesn't counter-punch as well as Ward, his reflexes aren't as good, he isn't as fast, he isn't as accurate, and he doesn't have the same work-rate or stamina. He's a good fighter, but Ward is just better in pretty much every department, apart from chin and power. But he isn't going to be brawling with Froch. 3. Froch has nothing that Kessler doesn't have. Froch is much more wild, slower, less accurate and makes heaps and heaps more technical mistakes. That is a recipe for disaster against a slick fighter like Ward. Now, Froch's unorthodoxy might give him some trouble. Defensive fighters tend to have more trouble picking off guys that are unpredictable and break the rules and have a better time of it when the opponent's approach is more standard: take Hopkins/Calzaghe and Hopkins/Pavlik as good examples. But Dirrell managed to handle Froch pretty easily when he actually chose to stand and fight, and showed that the guy is ripe for the taking by a counter-puncher. Ward has every tool in the box to take advantage of this. 4. Ward is much more intelligent than Dirrell. He knows how to fight dirty and he knows when to run and when to fight. If Froch tries to jump on top of him, he'll get head-butted in the face. If he tries to rabbit-punch, Ward will do a Hopkins and start crying. He's not rough round the edges in the same way Dirrell is. There is nothing for Froch to take advantage of here. Presuming no home-town cooking, I see a lopsided Ward decision or maybe even a late mercy stoppage if Froch tries to box too much.
I like Froch for his attitude, in his last 4 fights 3 of them were against undefeated fighters, his 1st defence was away and so is his next one against Kessler, he beat an undefeated Pascal who is now WBC LHW champ and on the way up beat as already noted Reid but also B Magee and stopped Tatevosyan in 2 rounds who had just taken Bute the distance. Its good form
Good analysis! I honestly don't think we've seen the best of Froch yet at world championship level... Having followed him for a while, I thought he appeared nervous during both the Pascal and Taylor fights and couldn't do much with Dirrell who ran the whole fight. He has a decent punchers chance against Ward. Though i have a feeling he might just put a beating on Kessler first..
Ward is gonna **** Froch up. Not beat him badly in the physical sense, but outclass him. Ward has all the versatility to outbox Froch and fight slick. Kessler though, I believe Kessler is going to get his ass handed to him. I question his mental mindset after seeing how flustered he was against Ward. Not only that, I realize Kessler cant adapt within rounds. His effort against Calzaghe not withstanding, he cant adjust tactics within a fight, and unorthodox fighter or speedsters give him al sorts of problems. Kessler is a textbook standup fighter, he has a decent punch arsenal. But if he fighting an opponent that isnt fighting along conventional lines of attack and defense, he cant adapt. Froch is wild, average handspeed, but he is also unpredictable. You have to have fast hands and reflexes, and you cant hesitate (which is what Dirrell unfortunately did). He is also I think the physically strongest out of all the Super 6 fighters, in terms of sheer raw physical strength. You cant outmuscle him or push him backwards off you. Kessler needs to hurt Froch early, really prepare himself, and be prepared to jab and move, fire off straight right hands down the pipe, and work on his lateral footwork so he cen deflect any of Frochs counter attacks Thats what he needs to do, but I find it likely Froch will jump on him early, catch him something, and Kessler will get caught into a dogfight of power shots. Once Froch gets him hurt, the crowd starts cheering him on, whatever, Kessler is gonna be in a difficult situation. Im learning towards a Froch TKO in the mid to late rounds.
when froch fought pascal i was wondering how froch would win but he did it when froch fought taylor i was wondering how froch would win but he did it when froch fought dirrel i was wondering how froch would win but he did it i dont know how but froch will beat ward....he has that unbeatable mentality
It's just as likely that Kessler will come back even more motivated than ever after his loss as it is that he's ruined. Anyway, as long as he has anything left, he'll batter Froch and deck him mid/late. It's not as if Kessler is some sort of cowering girl. Look what he did to Andrade: out-maneuvered him, beat him to the punch and systematically wore him down. NO WAY Froch endures the level of punishment Andrade did. Kessler is strong and has a solid chin.
1. With the Miranda fight I thought Ward boxed well but seemed to lack the killer instincts of the other 2 mentioned. 2. Pascal was forced to brawl more than usual due to Froch imposing his style which he may be able to do to Ward (we dont know yet). 3. Froch has a mental toughness that im not sure has been present in Kessler since his 1st defeat. Dirrell managed to handle Froch when he chose to stand and fight but obviously didnt feel to comfy to do so for long periods, that must have been down to Froch 4. If Ward winges without proper justification he runs the risk of point deductions, and Froch I dont think really jumps in he seems to stalk more forcing his opponents to use up there energy supplies
