Kessler looked like a lost little boy. You can't rely on the ref. I said straight after the fight he shoulda fought fire with fire
If I were Pavlik, who is in good terms with HBO, I wouldn't participate in the super 6. I would fight Bute (HBO is ready to buy that fight anytime) and wait for the winner.
yes...i agree i also think there could be a good build up to a pav/bute fight as well if both men can take care of business. there is time to do this properly
Only really Pavlik knows whether he can make 160 for several more years. Personally, I think he's more of a Middleweight than anything else. He's much more imposing there, and I'd like to see him build a bit of a legacy. He probably loses to Ward and Bute, though he probably beats everyone else (unless Kessler manages to regain form), so his prospects aren't amazing.
It depends on what Arum has backed up. A fight against Bute is bigger than the Super Six. So is a fight with Paul Williams. Anything else though is a waste of time for the returning MW king.
You see the Super Six aren't a roulette wheel of bums, they can actually fight. Who do you think he would rather fight, Lockett, Espino, Rubio or Ward, Dirrell, and Abraham?
Martinez wants Pavlik, not Williams. Williams is still the biggest money fight for both guys, Williams/Pavlik. Pavlik's camp 'thinks' it will be Martinez in early April. Kelly wants the big fights, well, except the mandatories forced on him. Kelly took a lot of heat for his off the cuff and out of context remarks on the Super Six, but he may have been right? How much did JT get to be retired? Too early for Bute. That needs to come closer to the end of the Saurland Six Tourney. Too many people tied up to go up and stay there and not much use going up until he does it the right way this time.
Pavlik is making a career out of fighting bums at 160, I can't imagine how shitty an opponent would have to be for him to accept a fight at 168?:think
The original question was "does Pavlik have a better option than joining the super six?" First, you can't just "join up." Sauerland has to agree to it, and he won't agree to any combatant who can beat Abraham and Kessler. Inviting Ward was a big mistake, but that doesn't change the fact that Mikkel was heavily favored to beat Ward. I think deciding KP's best options has a lot to do with how comfortable he really is about making 160. They seem to have the weight issue down a lot better than they did a few years ago. There are some good looking contenders and prospects coming up, and the division is going to be pretty strong again in 18 months or so. If KP can continue to make 160, he is in a great postion to become the experienced champion and ruler of a good division. If he struggles to make weight, he can have a couple more fights at 160, preferably include a decent southpaw, and then fight Bute followed by the winner of the sauerland six. "Joining" the tourney is really not an option. You can't just decide to go down to the gym and sign up. Sauerland did not want Pavlik in before Taylor dropped out, and he doesn't want him in now.
I actually read (admittedly can't remember where) that Pavlik was offered a spot at the start of the tournament! I started the thread because I believe Pavliks options of Legacy building fights are quite thin on the ground at the moment. As far as I'm aware Bute is already guarenteed a fight with the winner. So why would he risk this huge fight by fighting Pavlik? Martinez is not Legacy building in my opinion and Williams ain't gonna happen! When (I believe) Pavlik was offered a spot at the start he did have things in the pipeline like the Williams fight. But today is a different story. The tournament would offer Pavlik the chance to go down as a great! Aside from wether he wants it, your question of wether they would let him in the tournament is a good one! I would defimately give Pavlik a shout against Ward but I would not be confident either way.
