Booradley, Lara is way ahead of a prospect. He shouldn't be called a prospect anymore, in fact I bet he has much more experience than Brewer himself.

    :blood Uhh, no.

Has anyone actually seen Brewer fight lately? How sharp has he been looking as of late?

Whatever, man, January 30th will tell everything. But I would like those here who think Brewer is a bit like an unsurmountable stepup for Lara to come here the day after the fight to simply admit they were wrong.

quick question ... how widely available is the channel Fox Sports Net? it would be a shame to get hyped up about potentially seeing a fight, then realizing I don't have the channel.

Lara combined record... only 9 professional fights with opponents with a combined record of 105-70-8. Oh yeah, I'd say he's a certifiable contender with those kinds of fantastic numbers.

Don't get ahead of yourself, partner. Let's see the kid in there with some stiff opposition before you go crowning him the next great thing.

Great news. When you've accomplished as much as an amateur as Lara and his compatriots have, you can't learn anything from fighting a stream of club-fighters. If you're good enough, then why waste time? Whatever the outcome of this fight, it'll be better for his development than fighting some scrub.

I love to see fighters taking chances, so I'll be supporting Lara and Shumenov come the 29th.

The amount of ring experience Lara has is way beyond Brewer's, a man who has only 26 wins and 11 losses, 6 by KO, and is 39 years old. I don't know who you think Brewer is.

That's nice kid, go run with scissors now.

Brewer's list of professional opponents: Peter Manfredo Jr. Anthony Thompson, Mike "No Joke" Stewart, Danny Perez, Carlos Bjorquez, Sechew Powell, Jose Louis Zertuche, Marco Antonio Rubio, K-9 Bundrage, Steve Forbes, & Kelly Pavlik.... and he's upset a total of 5 undefeated prospects.

This man has been around the block a few times. :deal

Nice list, but you left Jermain Taylor off! I get the feeling some of these guys don't know anything about Brewer beyond Box Rec.

A number of Grady's losses came from taking fights with really good opponents on very short notice. For example he took the Pavlik fight on 2 weeks notice, and the Taylor fight on 5 weeks notice. In addition, he was on the wrong end of a few bad decisions.

Grady NEVER actually trained before The Contender. He worked full time, and took care of a wife and about a hundred kids, and just boxed in whatever time he had left over. Since winning the contender season two his situation is completely different.

Grady now owns a boxing gym in Lawton, Oklahoma. He trains amatuer fighters, spars with a couple pros, and most importantly, he trains properly for his own fights.

Brewer obviously took this fight on pretty short notice, but he is not to far removed from training for Winky Wright. That fight fell apart when the promoter pulled the plug, but Grady should still be in great shape.

At age 38 Brewer appears to be fighting better than ever. I would honestly put todays Grady Brewer in the same class with David Lopez, Glen Johnson, and Fulgencio Zuniga: a really good fighter who lost fights for all the wrong reasons. If a focused Grady Brewer shows up in great shape, Lara will get thumped.

Some of these guys crack me up. Brewer beat Forbes and Bundrage, and he was getting ready to fight Winky, but Lara is gonna steam roll him:patsch

Could be, but Lara doesn't hit that hard. I'm pretty excited about this because Brewer is my favorite journeyman. It will certainly be interesting to see how Lara handles his style. Pot shot and move -- blister and clinch -- spoil -- fiddle -- and frustrate. And then when you least expect it, ATTACK. Grady's style depends a lot on his physical strength, and Lara is a good sized light-middle. If Lara wins this, he is close to ready for a top guy.
