I'm absolutely gutted that Bernard has signed to fight Jones's corpse

The fans pay the bills. Ofcourse the fighters owe something to the fans. Some fighters recognise this.

 

Agreed. Tyson wasn't near his prime at all but on the other hand, it was still a good solid win for Lennox because even a very past prime Tyson was a top guy of the era and very viable at that point. You can't give Lennox too much credit for that one but you can't take it all away either. This is different with Jones coming off a jaw-dropping loss. Tyson hadn't lost in years going into the Lewis bout (though hadn't beaten a high caliber guy in those years).

 

All they owe the fans is to show up in the ring and put their lives on the line each fight. How can you justify trying to tell another man who he should put his life on the line against? BHop is 40 ****in 4!


You can recite all that self-righteous, self-empowering jibberish that people have been coming up with to justify people's envy and btterness towards athletes... :-(


But in the end, BHop can fight who the **** he wants. And if people pay fo it (like I will) then who are you to say he shouldn't????

i think physically he was close but in terms of experience and technique no, he was still green. if they had fought 6 or 7 years after though, Hopkins would have been called old. either way, i don't see any version of Hopkins beating any verson of Jones before 2003. even after that, hopkins would struggle mightily with a faded Jones. Roy was just too damn athletic for him

 

I have no desire to see this and I don't see how the ppv numbers would make this fight doable. But even with that I think both guys are making smart moves by making this fight. Jones simply has little to no big fight options. I don't see HBO or Showtime looking to put him back on and there aren't many ppv options around his weight out there. This fight also makes sense for Hopkins who has to see this as a very winnable fight that will pay him well. A lot of the other fights that we want to see like Dawson, Green, Bute, Haye, etc will still be there. when this fight is over. Hopkins can get the Jones bout in before Jones stock plummets even more and then go after one of those other fights later this year. For some of these guys Hopkins is their big fight so he can always revisit them after the Jones fight. Smart move for both guys, I just have no desire to see it.

 

to be honest with you guys the fight is personal to bernard just look back and do your home work.

 

Honestly your talking about 2 guys who hate to exchange punches in their prime. So at this stage of their careers it might be a much more fan friendly fight than it wouldve been 10 years or more ago. 24/7 will be a blast. I dont really mind. Better than seeing Hopkins get outboxed by Chad Dawson in a boring UD.

 

It's gotta be all about the money and at 44, well, I can't blame him too much. But yeah it's crazy, after a round 1 KO vs Green, it just seems wrong.
But if B-Hop thinks he's avenging anything with this fight, he's crazy, it achieves nothing.

 

I knew this fight would still happen... especially after Jones started crying foul about getting stopped down under.

It's a joke... but joke fights like this are part of the tradition of the sport.

As we see RJJ today, yes he could be an easy and sure prey for Hopkins if they face each other. It's like pitting a pitbull to a chihuahua. But seriously, nobody can blame either two of the fighters taking the fight because some boxing fans want it and they knew they owe everything to them to take it. Even if it's a one sided fight, still two great names in boxing facing each other is something to watch. But we never know what Roy Jones Jr can still do if he fights Bernard Hopkins this time around.

 

Hopkins is hell bent on "avenging" that loss to jones....no matter what the current conditions are....

 

hops is 45, I am not going to give him any **** for not fighting dawson which would be a boring fight and dawson is a bad style match up for him. So what is the point in seeing him loose a dreadfully boring decision to dawson at 45? He already became the ring 175 lb champ and vacated it.


The only thing that sucks about this fight is that there isnt much to promote it with Jones coming off a lost. I said prior to the Green fight that it was a bad idea because people were overrating Jones because they didnt understand just how shot Jeff Lacy really is these days. I said they should have went straight to a Hops/Jones fight because I was worried about RJJ loosing and unfortunately my concerns turned out to be true.


Id still like to see the fight regardless, I would hope that they actually retire after it but knowing them they wont.
