The super six is a brilliant concept.

At the end of the day, we are guaranteed to see the top fighters, in SMW division, fight each other.

If you'd told me a year ago that Carl Froch would be fighting Mikkel Kessler then Abraham, back to back, I would not have believed it. It's superb for boxing.

As for the Jermain Taylor issue, surely it's a good thing that Taylor has quit. He's had some terrible KO's recently and will now be stepping aside, to let a better, healthier fighter take his place. How can that be a bad thing? Taylor keeps himself in good health and another top fighter takes his place.

 

The fighters can only fight so often esp. if they pick up injuries. TBH as harsh as it sounds Taylor isn't that much of a loss, I don't think he was going to qualify for the knockout rounds in any case.

 

No top flight boxers fight more than 2 or 3 times a year these days. I guess the Super 6 has to work within that constraint.

 

No, he doesnt have a serious illness or anything like that, but can you honestly say he wasnt seriously risking his long term health by carrying on stepping into the ring against top class opponents?

Taylors KO at the hands of Abraham was sickening and sad to see. It's all part and parcel of boxing, but I'm glad Taylor is out when he can clearly, no longer compete at the top level and would be risking his health by continuing to do so.

 

I guess one of the problems with the Super 6 is that fighters who would usually take an easy, confidence building fight after a KO loss arn't able to, its straight back in for another tough fight.

 

I don't get it with Taylor.

He has three KO losses.... all to top guys, and it is fair to say that he was leading all of them at some stage by a healthy margin - only Abraham was winning at the time of the stoppage.

Is it stamina alone, or is it a mental thing?

He isn't an old man, he hasn't had 50-odd fights..... he doesn't have a reputation for being a drinker/drugger/junk food merchant to my knowledge.

On the tourney, I think it's a potentially great idea that could do with a bit of tweaking. The main problem is that it leaves young prospects on the outer (potentially) whilst (though not in this case) locking in guys that are on the slide or have deceiving records.

 

He does have a rep for not training as well as he might. Don't know how much this is a factor though.

 

Prima you are a ****, super six is great concept. Perhaps if the welters had a super 6 Mayweather would actually fight someone...

The only problem with the super 6 is the fact that it takes so long for the fighters to get it on, they should fight every 2 months or summat, i feel sorry for bika/green that they come into the tournie on 0 points. Bit unfair if you ask me, also the ring belt should be granted for the winner...
