Cloud had a shot at Dawson by agreeing to a deal one fight away which also would have given him an undercard spot on HBO, but his team stupidly turned it down. Dawson also was signed to fight Diaconu, but Diaconu (who's not that good, anyway) got hurt and pulled out. Chad has fought three top-five opponents since moving to 175 and has been ducked by Hopkins, and Calzaghe retired -- what's he supposed to do? Pascal is the best fight out there for him at the moment, followed by Cloud, I guess. But really, he's not going to get anything better until some of the 168s move up. I'd love to see Dawson/Bute at some point.
Pascal is not the same boxer since losing against Froch! I give all the credits to Froch for winning that war. However Pascal learned so much from that fight. If there was a rematch today, Pascal would easily beat the Cobra either by KO or lopsided decision. No doubt in my mind!
i can see the styles gelling and pascal will win a few rounds when dawson gets lazy in rounds, but i expect a clear cut 117-111 type fight for dawson. dawson should have taken a stay busy fight in the meantime v a gimee just so he does not have to sit on his backside for 7 /8 months during his prime.
Good competitive fight. Pascal seems to be one of those fighters that actually get better from their defeats. I'm going for Dawson, but it should be good one. Good fights in June.
Dawson's fundamentals will be too much for Pascal. Pascal's style will work against guys with little ring IQ but not against a technically skilled fighter like Dawson who can set up his attacks with the jab.
But Dawson was given another shot to fight Diaconu in the summer of 2008 after he defeated Glen Johnson, but Dawson refused to fight Diaconu because he didn't want to fight in Romania and the Johnson fight probably still lingereded in his head. IMO Dawson should of dropped the WBC belt and rematched Glen Johnson immediantiely then fight Diaconu.
Why would Dawson "be given a shot" to fight Diaconu? He was a mandatory and did nothing for Chad, and the purse bid results meant the bout would be held off American TV in Romania. Instead, Dawson's people gambled that they finally had cornered Tarver, which gave Chad a big payday and helped him land with HBO, where he's had two good paydays since then.
seeing as how he already beat tarver and johnson and hopkins wants none, this is the next best thing.
Should be a great fight, Dawson wil probably win this one but ill be rooting for Pascal hes a great fghter to wach
Hope this fight happens June 19 and is at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Never been to Montreal in nice weather.
