He lasted the full 12 rounds with Margarito...Cintron was blown out both times. Cintron was extremely lucky to get a draw with Martinez..a lot of people thought Clottey beat Cotto. Cintron barely outlasted Angulo who at the time had what 15 pro fights? Clottey is definitely a more durable, worthwhile opponent.

Cintron is actually an OK fight for Mayweather to stall until a Pac or Mosley/Berto showdown. Fighting Malinaggi or Campbell would be career suicide.

That is bottom line isn't it. Had they never gone into negotiations and got so close to a deal.......... But they did and now anything else is just...... eh, just fill in the blank yourself.

Another cherry picked opponent for Gayweather....Cintron has a big right hand...and...well thats about it. Sergio Marines boxed the **** out of Kermit....Mayweather will just run and pot shot his way to a boring 12 round decision....big f'n deal. Would've been more impressed if he went after Bardley, but Bradley is too live an opponent for Fraud....and we all know Floyd won't fight the winner of Berto/Mosely....Pacquiao will probably fight the winner of that fight because thats what real champions do. I hope Floyd just retires once and for all because I've gone from disliking the guy, to flat out loathing his ***** ass. Hopefull the boxing God's will bless Cintron and he'll land a miracle right hand and knock Floyd's ***** ass out...but we all know that won't happen with Floyd's defense first, boring style. :tired

Cintron isn't as good as Clottey, but under the circumstances I won't hate on Floyd at all if he goes in this direction.

At least Cintron is a legit 147 who has real power. At least there's an element of danger in this fight that wouldn't be there with Paulie or Nate, just as there wasn't with Baldomir or JMM.

Like who? Among the list of Welterweights, Cintron is the best available one. Berto, Mosley, Margarito, Clottey and Pacquiao are all fighting each over the next two months. Even among the jr. Middleweights, the top two are going to rematch next. The only remaining top welterweights are Collazo and Cintron, and at this point I think Cintron is probably more highly regarded of the two. Add to that the fact that Cintron is the #3 Jr. Middleweight, beat a VERY good prospect in Angulo, and did well against Martinez who is on several p4p rankings. And ANYBODY Floyd fights from the lower weights will be met with criticism, so that's automatically out. Let's be honest, the people criticizing Floyd for picking Cintron instead of Bradley are the same people who would have criticized Floyd had he picked Bradley instead of Cintron. So they don't count.

I honestly can't think of anybody better who would be available in March for Floyd.

It was an 8 rounds to 4 UD on all 3 cards. (116-112) That isn't exactly "barely outlasting" somebody. That is a solid victory.

at the same time though...I wanna see him fight a "current" top 10...Cintron is not a "CURRENT" TOP 10...

Still a good choice by Floyd

I wasnt referring to the scorecards, I was referring to the fact that he was gassed the last few rounds and had Angulo been a bit more experienced possibly could have put him away. He did well in the first half of the fight, but then again, and I could be wrong, im too lazy to look it up, but I believe Angulo only had 15 pro fights at the time. I know it wasnt too many.

It isn't a bad choice but why are we not hearing this from PBF's camp. DLH is trying to pitch this to them. If they plan on keeping that March date they need to hurry up and name someone.

Here's the current Welterweight Top 10 (according to Ring)

    1. Pacquiao - going to fight against Clottey in March
    2. Mosley - going to fight against Berto at the end of the month; won't be ready for March or April. There's already strong speculation that he's going to fight the winner, so he's not ducking Mosley or Berto in favor of Cintron - he's fighting Cintron waiting for Mosley/Berto to play itself out.
    3. Cotto - moving up to Jr. Middle, and bad PR to beat Pac's leftovers.
    4. Clottey - going to fight Pacquiao in March
    5. Margarito - already scheduled to fight, and unknown what he has left after the layoff and without the loaded gloves. He needs a few fights to prove himself.
    6. Andre Berto - fighting Mosley, and will therefore also be at least a few months away from being ready to fight again.
    7. Collazo - he's available, but I think at this point Cintron is probably more highly regarded.
    8. Rafal Jackiewicz - who? PBF would be laughed out of the sport here.
    9. Jan Zaveck - Ditto.

Meantine, Cintron is rated the #3 Jr. Middleweight. I'd say that puts him higher up than #7, #8, or #9 on the Welterweight list. I'd say it also puts him higher than any Jr. Welterweights.

It's as good a choice as Mayweather can make as a backup plan.

Totally agree, Clottey is much better than Cintron.
