After hearing reports that some of the commisions want to bring back the Super Heavy division my first reaction was WHY? but thinking about it a bit more in depth I think it would be a great idea.

    1. All the freakishly big guys (predominantly Eastern European) can fight each other and fighters such as Klitchkos and Valuevs would be happy to trog on as long as there champions.
    2. We can class it as a minor weight division, a bit like cruiser where we only watch if theres a good fighter fighting (actually this is what the HW division is like at the mo too)
    3. The Heavyweight division would again prosper as the boxers wouldnt put so much weight on to try and catch up with the giants that they only have enough energy to cuddle during a fight.
    4. Any really good Heavy/Super heavy matches could still be made if it was marketable as the leap would not be so big.
    5. Sadly, there would be more chance of having British/American champions making the division more mainstream and getting more airtime

    What do you's think

Oh yeah, that would be a great division: Valuev, Tye Fields, that Fridge guy from Prizefighter, Shannon Briggs, Solis and Butterbean.

No, I strongly disagree. Splitting an already relatively weak division into two just makes no sense. We have seen that the smaller HWs can beat the giants (Holyfield & Haye versus Valuev, and Chambers versus Dimitrenko).

The problem is not so much size as it is talent. The Klitschko's are not just dominating the division because they are larger, they make the most of their talents, unlike almost every other HW out there, with only potentially a few possible exceptions turning up recently.

Its a terrible idea, and completely unnecessary

Where do you get the idea that HWs are trying to "catch up" as you say to the giant sized HWS?

Because other than the Klitschko brothers, there really havent been elite big fighters. Some decent ones, but certainly not enoguh to create a trend of "I need to bulk up to compete with these guys"

The Klitschkos in terms of height are obviously enormous, but they posses the lean bodies of athletes.

The fat ****s that pack on weight are exactly that, fat ****ers. No extra division should me made to accomodate them.

i think you want to have an american/british champion, and not a world champion:tired
it's all the same with some guys from the states or britain...
we want to have a world champion, if he is american it's great as long as he is!!! the best boxer, but if he is from russia or asia or africa, as long as he is the best boxer i'm allright with that:deal
and besides the K brothers, lewis and bowe, who is else that big and that good??? it happened that 4 guys above 6,4 are athletic, strong, have great skills and are very good. so after them there are the normal heavyweight, after the K Brothers there will be a world champion who is probarly smaller than 6,3. and i will give a **** from where he will be as long as he is the best fighter

Its generally assumed that big guys like the Klitschkos and Lewis are exceptions to the rule that big guys aren't very athletic. Looking past the K's (who wont be around forever) which prospects do you see dominating the division? Certainly not Ustinov or Dimitrenko. More likely guys like Povetkin, Haye, Solis, Boytsov (haven't seen him fight but have heard enough good things). My point is people wont be calling out for a super-heavy division in a few years time, and will be glad we didn't create one now

Super heavy would be a bad idea.Haye and Chageav have shown that smaller guys can beat the really big heavy weights,Wlad has been stopped a couple of times by smaller men as well. The Klitchko brothers are both decent fighters which is why they became champs not because of thier size.A new division would just cause more confusion and i think you would end up with guys holding belts in both divisions so it would be pointless.

yeah i think when the K bros are gone, without ruining povetkin, chambers, haye, solis and boytsov, we will have a very exciting division.
    imagine fights like
    povetkin-boytsov
    haye - solis(in shape)
    chambers-chagaev
there will be alot of great match ups.
but that doesn't mean that we will have a better division.
because we have with the K bros right now a great division, the problem is that the brothers are by far the best fighters

:cheersI've hated this idea whenever I've heard it but actually it might make for a better HW division with better trained athletes, or maybe just even more fat slobs...

nope, who would populate that division? Shannon Briggs, A fat **** from Prize fighter, Arreola, Valuev, Butterbean, and the Klitshckos. Yeah that is a list of guys that need a seperate division.

The heavies would become like the cruisers.

The reason why the heavies was the division that had the most interest in the past is because it was accepted that no-one could beat the heavyweight champ in a boxing match. That will pass onto the super-heavy division now.

even if they did this tomorrow the Klitschko's would still be in the normal HW division. What do they cap it at 250, 240 even 230 i bet both could still cut too that. Most importantly there would be like 10 shitty fighters at SHW, ******ed idea.

Make SuperHeavy, get rid of Cruiser and include it in the Heavyweight division, increase Lightheavy by about 10 pounds.

The big divisions could do with a shot in the arm, something to help the sport, but will the ****in ****s in the boxing organizations do it? Not a ****in chance. They'll probably just make a new division. More carving up of the sport to allow them to squeeze a bit more money out of it. ****in ****s.

Lewis, Wlad and Vitali are the only people in recent histroy who I would think could ever make a SHW division even slightly credible; and those guys are anomalies in terms of their size + athletic prowess.

If you look at the losses these 3 suffered, then you'll see size isn't really an issue:

Lewis: lost to Rahman and McCall - both 6 foot 2. He also has a draw (bull**** but it's still on his record) with Holyfield who's about 6 foot 1.

VK: the anomaly here is he has a loss to Lewis, who we're calling a SHW. However he does have a loss to Byrd, who stands at about 6 foot.

WK: losses to Puritty, Sanders and Brewster - 6 foot 3,4 and 1, respecitvely. Bigger guys but not what i'd call SHWs.

On top of that we have Haye/Chagaev (and Holyfield/Ruiz) beating Valuev.

Size don't matter; there's no need for a new division.

If anything drop the limit slightly and narrow cruiser down slightly. Or skew them all a bit more, I find it ******ed CW is 175 - 200 lbs, yet LW to LWW is like 5 ****ing lbs ..

Agree with eveything you said except the bold, the lower you go the more weight differential matter. 175+ it isn't as much of an issue but the lighter you go the more the discrepancy.
