Let me ask you again. If Martinez can do pretty much everything B-Hop can do, then it follows that you're going to be rating him as highly as B-Hop in terms of skill. So are you consistent in that respect?

I doubt it, because, deep down, you probably appreciate that Hopkins is quite simply just a better fighter than Martinez. First of all, he's much stronger. He had KP buzzed more than once. It took a great deal of superior strength to man-handle Pavlik to the extent that he did, and also to stop Pavlik just pushing him off and throwing something back over the top (which he would do against a weaker opponent). Second of all, he's much better defensively. Martinez has the raw skills and is a very good defensive fighter, but he has lapses. Hopkins is the complete package, with range control, head movement, blocking and countering. Hopkins is also much better on the inside. And he's better at controlling the pace. And he's much more durable, even as an old man. The list goes on and on. Plus, remember that there's a big difference between a Light Heavyweight and a Light Middleweight, so debating this on a pound-for-pound basis isn't going to help you.

Now, I'm not saying Pavlik will walk all over Martinez. Martinez is a great fighter, and is a stylistically tricky opponent for someone who's not particularly quick and relatively plodding. His main problem is that he doesn't respond well to pressure. He doesn't have a great chin, has nothing that will put KP on the back foot, and inevitably runs out of energy after about the 6th. I think he'll also struggle with the physical advantages of Pavlik, who fights tall and from range and does have the rudiments of a defence, in contrast to Williams who sacrifices a lot of his physical advantages with his approach and leaves himself wide open. In short, Martinez will give Pavlik trouble for the first half of the fight, until he starts to get hit, at which point he'll fade into nothing pretty sharpish.

What you Pavlik loving morons have to realize is that Pavlik is a good fighter not an elite fighter!!(BIG DIFFERENCE).

The thing that makes Pavlik good is not his boxing skill cause he is very unathletic and slow; its his relentlesness, durability and good power(not AA power)!!!!!

Pavlik is the MW version of Angulo and Margarito with more control! The difference is that Pavlik paces himself better than those two guys. Problem is that KP needs an opponent to stay in front of him to get of his clean shots where those othere guys will throw punches from any position to keep the pressure on!!!

Reasonable points, but I think it works out ok. Pavlik is fighting the guy who gave the guy he is relentlessly being accused of ducking all he could handle and then some(regardless of who you thought won the fight). There aren't a lot of reasonable options out there unless you want to see more easy fights. Williams is heading back down, Sturm is tied up and well, this is the next best thing. Credit to Martinez for having the sack to mix it up with guys like PW and KP.

You know, all those exclamation points(!!!) almost convinced me. But...... nah. We'll see about Pavlik when he fights Martinez. There isn't much evidence that KP can handle the mobile, elusive fighter. But then again, there isn;t much evidence beyond Hopkins that he can't handle any type of fighter. He's beaten everyone else he's faceed. So, until he has a real bod of work against these ttype of guys, I think it would be wise if I reserved judgement.

And that is what seperates the obnoxious Pavlik fans from the one's that I like. Before the Hopkins schooling this board was covered with assholes that I couldnt stand. Most of those guys disappeared after the embarrassment that he took. Now the more realistic ones are still here. Some may still be delusional, but not assholes.

Just starting, but I guess I'll see someone along the way say he had damned well better keep his hands up against Kelly if he doesn't want to take a nap before the final bell?

Yeah. I still prefer Sturm. Mundine only to see him get pummeled, but Mundine wanted it in Ozzie land from what I've been able to gather.

I will always stand by this...

I will always think margarito is/was way better than pavlik

    better chin
    better fighting inside
    better output
    better footwork
    better punch variety

p4p I think margarito would whoop pavliks ass... nothing against pavlik neither
