Why is Clottey Considered Dangerous to Pacquiao?

Winky Wright was a very dangerous opponent and he rarely KO'd or even hurt anyone for that matter. You need to stop basing being dangerous with having KO power. Mayweather hasn't fought the fighters Clottey has fought so that is an unfair comparison (even though again, if you stop looking at the paper records only and actually pay attention to the fighters you would know the Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather comparison is simply stupid in this context). Being a tough fighter does not only mean he can take punches. But after reading this sentence I can see from your lack of understanding of the sport why you don't understand how Clottey is dangerous. Firstly, the chin is not a stylistic problem, that actually falls in the tough category as does his physical strenght and size. Stylistically he's dangerous for anyone (including Pacquiao) because he rarely gets hit cleanly and when he does he can take them. He can fight coming forward or wait and counter, he's a good combination puncher, good body puncher, he has good timing and good handspeed. He's not a big puncher as you've tried to make clear in your previous posts, but he does have average welterweight power and someone who was able to stun Margarito should not be taken as a guy who simply can't hurt another fighter. Also, you may have noticed (or not) that Pacquiao seems to do a lot of damage by taking advantage of his speed and cathing opponents with crisp shots they simply don't see coming because they are still in a moving motion i.e. the Miguel Cotto knock downs. Clottey will probably not let that happen, which means he will be there nice and strong through out most of the fight.

The fight is a set up of Arum fighters. It's just disgusting what Roach's fighter and rogers nephew have done to the fans...utterly disgusting! Roach's fighters fans are actually giving ther man a pass too because of the name Clottey lol... Tough but, doesn't win the big one.

    Paragraphs please.

You are also talking about things Clottey does well, but not talking about how he applies that against Pacquiao. Don't you think that Clottey's lack of speed will present problems toward implementing his fight plan?

I lack understanding of the sport??? LOL Look at what you just said about KO rates when comparing Floyd to Clottey: "Mayweather hasn't fought the fighters Clottey has fought so that is an unfair comparison." Have you even LOOKED at Clottey's official record? I would say Mayweather has fought better competition than Clottey, and still has more KOs. And nobody is claiming Mayweather is a devastating puncher. Either way, Mayweather has a higher career KO% than Clottey (only 51.28%)

I am also not basing Clottey being dangerous or not completely off of his KOs. That is one factor. So, if Clottey is not a dangerous KO artist, how does he overcome his huge disadvantage with foot-speed and lateral movement? So Clottey doesn't have a chance at a KO, and is completely out-classed when it comes to speed.... what is he relying on again?

Do you honestly have this as a competitive fight? If you do, let me know so I can have you eat crow after the beat down.

This fight will not even be remotely close. Cherry-picked fight by Top Rank and mafia boss Bob Arum.

And since you brought up Winky Wright: He also had problems with active fighters with speed.

Sorry about the paraghraps, didn't think it was too much to read in one. What Clottey does well is what applies to Pacquiao because that's what Pacquiao will be facing.

"Don't you think that Clottey's lack of speed will present problems toward implementing his fight plan?" It is comments like this (and the thread title) that make me question your understanding of the sport. You see, I'm not an expert and I'll admit that, but even I can see that Clottey has good speed, and that the best way to fight speed is with timing (something I mentioned Clottey has). Will it be easy, of course not Pacquiao is one hell of a fighter and his speed could overwhelm Clottey, but until then we have to understand Clottey does have the tools to be competitive with Pacquiao.

I agree that Mayweather has faced better competition than Clottey in general. But not in the welterweight division which is where Clottey has fought most of his life and where Mayweather has only ko'd smaller fighters than himself.

I already answered how Clottey is suposed to over come Pacquiao's speed advantage and have alreay adressed that Clottey has average power which is not bad power, just not extremely powerful.

It depends on what you see as a competitive fight. I don't think Clottey is going to beat Pac, I think he lacks the power to seriously hurt Pac and the punch output to beat him on points, but discrediting Clottey to the lenght of saying he's not a dangerous opponent is beyong ridiculous.

Clottey will be Manny's punching bag. Maybe he can land a big counter. He has a puncher's chance much like Cotto.

Because he will have about 20lbs on Pac fight night. To put that into perspective, thats like a WW fighting a LHW. Pac is a small WW who can make JWW easy and can struggle to make LW, Clottey is known to come in at 170lbs fight night.

And he is no lumbering fool either, granite chin with decent speed and good countering skills.

Clottey is not a dangerous opponent "to Pacquiao." I am not dismissing Clottey as a fighter overall, I just don't see that match-up being difficult for Pacman. Sorry if I wasn't clear with that distinction.

 Always the same issues, I've been giving Clotteys his respect since I saw him fight Gutierrez and have tought since then he would give any top fighter a good fight, and so far this has been the case. Clottey would have been as solid opposition for Mayweather as he is for Pacquiao in my eyes. In fact I even think Cintron is a good option for Floyd even though he probably stands just a slim of a chance (if not less) than what Clottey stands against Pacquiao.

Than the thread title is misleading. I don't think Clottey will beat Pac either, but he's a good option after the Mayweather fight fell through.
