no, it's hate. he's like a kid who can exploit a video game. he just throws a lot of punches, even if they aren't effective. we doesn't necessarily beat his opponents, he just wins rounds. at least that's what happens on the rare occasions when he fights against good people. not a bad fighter, but not a great fighter.
good fighter and dosent deserve the hte he gets but he also shouldnt be given all the praise he recieves either
he has accomplished much and does deserve to go to the hall of fame. but he is as tthe product of himself as he is the product of weak opposition.
Or in the words of Daniel Patrick Moynihan: "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts." And the fact is, for the 11 years he was a super middleweight champion, Joe somehow failed to step in the ring with a single P4P talent in his prime. And the most impressive wins he can boast, are an abysmal Jeff Lacy, and a robotic Mikkel Kessler.
The problem when talking about Calzaghe is, the ridiculous extremes people go to. His fans think he's the best thing ever, his detractors think he's an absolute fraud. He's obviously somewhere in between.
Joe beat everyone put in front of him. Simply the best Super Middleweight ever (for what that is worth) and does not get the respect he should from many cause he refused to play to the American market. When he finally did go to America for his last two fights it did not really endear him to the Americans cause he beat their darling Hopkins (a fighter Joe beats at any stage in their careers). His beat asset was his ability to adapt mid-fight - he was never out thought in the ring and he came up with the answer against every fighter he faced. Not a top 50 ATG but could be top 20 of the past 20 years.
^^ this is exactly what I'm talking about. ****ing fanboy bias bull****. He beat everyone that was put in front of him - yeah - and what was put in front of him was absolute junk for the most part. Best supermiddleweight ever - yeah, again true - and SMW isn't exactly stacked with ATG's is it? His "best ability" was his stamina and workrate, and how you can say "that Joe Calzaghe would beat Hopkins at any stage in their careers' is beyond me, I don't see any logic behind this at all, none whatsoever.
Adapting mid-way through a fight against the level of opposition he faced, isn't as impressive as you make out. Good talent yes, but failed to justify it. Oh and I forgot to address your assertion of Hopkins when you said "a fighter Joe beats at any stage in their careers". Are you serious? He failed to beat him convincingly at the old age of 43, so what the hell makes you think he'd beat an optimum Hopkins? lol you probably think he'd beat a prime Roy Jones too
did this guy not see the fight? calzaghe has a bigger American fan base than hopkins. most Americans don't even like hopkins. in most of his fights people are rooting for him to lose. that being said, i like hopkins. i respect anyone who can find their own way to greatness instead of taking the same beaten path everyone else takes.
