Good post. Fact is fact, opinion is opinion, and bias is bias.

On FNF they had a poll showing how many people nationwide were planning to watch Pacquiao/Clottey. 66% said they were not planning to watch that fight. 49 out of 50 states said no. I imagine that this could get very ugly for Top Rank. Jerry Jones won't let that stadium be empty, but I think the numbers will be disappointing.

A lot of casual fans have said that Floyd needs Manny more than Manny needs Floyd, but as you pointed out, Floyd is clearly the bigger draw, and with 66% saying no... it looks like Manny may need Floyd more than they think.

 

That was before and this is now. You are always as good as your last performance. If Floyd and Pac were to have a separate fight on the same day, who would have more PPV buys?

 

According to that ESPN poll, it looks like Floyd would have the advantage. However we won't know until an opponent is announced and a similar poll is conducted. However when 2 out of 3 people say that they have no interest in watching your fight, one can only wonder what they would be interested to watch instead.

 

I think they have both destroyed their credibility and their PPV numbers are going to be very low.

The ESPN poll showed that very few people will pay to see Pacquiao vs. Clottey.

Unless Floyd fight Shane, I can't imagine any PPV fight out there for him that would crack the 500 000 mark at this point.

 

Fighting in America....against America's marquee boxer....Manny Pacquiao is on the B side of the equation against mayweather.....

I do think at the moment HBO is probably going to invest more in pacquiao, seeing that he is more active at the moment...

Both of their stocks have gone down. Unless they fight each other, or maybe Mosley, the general public isn't really interested in watching them fight right now.

 

Floyd has some favorable circumstances behind his PPV numbers.

DLH was coming off a solid win against Mayorga prior to his fight with PBF as opposed to a mediocre win against Forbes after losing to PBF in boring fashion prior to his fight against Pac. Pac also had proven nothing at Welterweight, so the fight was seen as more of a cheap cash grab by DLH to a lot of fans. Plus the economy was down much worse at the time of the Pac fight.

Hatton was undefeated prior to the Floyd fight, and again, the economy was worse at the time of Manny's fight with him.

Marquez was Floyd's comeback fight, and Floyd's comeback was the big draw, not the fight itself. And Marquez was coming off the possible FotY against Juan Diaz for his own part.

All this said, I think if you stack Floyd vs the same opponent as Pacquaio under even circumstances, Floyd would prove to be the bigger draw due to him being American, his polarizing persona, and his skills. It doesn't really matter though, because Floyd won't take on the big names, and so as long as Pacquaio does that while Floyd does not, he'll outdraw Floyd from here on.

 

Some people get so caught up in PBF hate that they fail to realize that he is a huge draw ,love him or hate him. Lets not for get who idea it was for 24/7. :rasta

exactly, its the boxing part that matters not the number of people who watches them. why do you guys have to track down numbers anyway?
