    Frank Warren once said;

'My Boxers get paid well because they are good at what they do and I get well paid because i'm good at what I do If I was a boxer I would be a world champion, the unified world champion'.

He said this when discussing his capabilities as a promoter on a documentry about Joe Calzaghe shortly after the Charles Brewer fight.

Following Khans recent departure FWP find themselves without an A-lister for the first time for many, many years... in fact as long as I can remember.

I find the situation very intriguing. With most of his fighters either out of form (Enzo, Arthur), not quite ready for major fights (Kell Brook) or too early to make significant steps up (Bellew, Walsh brothers) is going to be super interesting to see how Warren fares in 2010.

If it wasn't for the recent rise to prominence of Hatton promotions, Calzaghe promotions, Khan promotions and Goldonboy showing an interest in UK boxing I would be very worried about the sport for the next 12 months. What with Maloney seemingly more interested in becoming mayor of london and funding the latvian journeyman society.

For so long Warren has been 'the man' in UK boxing promotion- how do you think he will respond to this uprising? Surely it can only be a good thing for UK boxing that FWP will be forced to think outside the box a little? What do you think he should do? Who knows perhaps one of his personel might come across this thread and find some good ideas? I know they read this forum?

Please keep this thread positive and non-slanderous so that it doesn't shut down.

    Thanks

    Jeffro.

To quote a certain mr atlas,
'When a student graduates from the best of schools like hardvard, you wouldn't give them crayons to play with would you.
Then why would you give a top amatuer who just graduated from the worlds or olympics journeymen with no records. They learn nothing and lose heart, put them in with different styles and stances, somebody with a pulse for crying out loud'.

That my friend is exactly what needs to be done, no more mismatches especially mismatches on ppv like Khan vs ***an :-(

it is not the best time for frank warren at the moment losing his biggest star but with fighters like kevin mitchell nathan cleverly and kell brook not far from world level things could change and also the younger ones coming through who will be at title level soon bellew gavin and of course de gale lets hope most of these fighters can make a good push for titles

    My suggestions.....

1- Switch focus from international boxing to domestic boxing- like he did towards the end of 2009... and through much of the late nineties.

2- Bring over foreign stars... Winky Wright, Sharmba Mitchell, Tyson, Jeff Lacy, Barrera all featured on his shows over the years- how about bringing stars over so we can watch them in the flesh?

3- Resolve differences with Hatton, Haye and Calzaghe.... Could be a good thing?

4- Interact with the fans more... Don't get so annoyed at critisism, the worlds not all sunshine and rainbows- no matter what you do you won't please everybody. Falling out with magazines and websites over critism is plain silly.

5- Focus on the traditional route, put some pride back into that commonwealth title.

6- Don't retire.... We need FWP. They might be going through a tough patch but without them lets be honest, we'd be ****ed.

7- No more international bums... please they are ****ing ****, and considering i'm not the most articulate poster in the world I still nailed bob mee's recent investigation around 6 months before bob did.

8- Promote, lets get to know the fighters. Use that youtube channel to tell us about your fighters. Not just boring interviews- how about mini documentries?... A little bit of emotional music... Tell us who they are and why they box.... Make me care.

Thats all i've got for now... I'll try and think of more later.

I think you are dramatising this a bit too much Jeff if I am really honest with you.

Who did Warren have when he was building Khan up? Warren has a lot of guys who are on the verge of a world shot or have exciting potential achieve that. At the end of 2010 I think you will see a different picture. He still puts on the best British shows - the other mentioned promoters are a good addition but they dont put on better shows than Warren.

Khan was a HUGE star already, he was on TV nearly every day and everybody knew who he was!!

Who knows who Kevin Mitchell is? Do a test go and ask some bloke on your street? Ask them who Tony Bellew is etc.... The general population doesn't know who these excellent fighters are. Not yet anyway!!

Everyone knew who Amir Khan was. I'd say Degale is the most well known- oh and big Audley and you could fit their fans combined in a minibus at the moment.

***an had never been stopped, was the Irish champion and had pushed Paul Spadafora and Kimborough very close. He recently featured in one of the best fights ever in Ireland against Hyland. It wasn't a bad match at all.

However it wasn't PPV worthy either.

Do you think there is much a difference in profile between Degale and Khan post-Olympics - I am not so sure. Degale won gold.

I hear what you are say about the likes of Mitchell etc but that is reflected across the domestic scene and not confined to one particular promoter - we need more mainstream coverage of boxing.

The onyl difference is Khan was on ITV, Degale's on sky so less exposure.

    Thats a fair point...

With regards Khan and Degale.... no chance... Khan was considered a phenom due to his age and the opposition he faced in the Olympics. Degales opposition en route wasn't anywhere near as challenging. The re'match' with Kindelan featured live on ITV FFS. Also his terrible performances in the ABA's post olympics were greeted with a huge demand for tickets. I was at preston when he was floored by Craig Watson and seriously he ABA must have made 000's that night it was rammed to the rafters.

i dont think framk wanted amir to be on ppv but the amount of money in amirs contract that was the only way that he could make it cost effective

Agreed, another thing that wont help is the fact i believe degale will flop (my opinion) and gavin will be a sucess, only boxing fans or clued up sport fans know who he is.
In a casuals eye, degale who should be the next khan would become a resounding audley. Everytime an high-profile brit who has been hyped up to **** loses, the casual armchair fans come out spouting bile. They wont take so much **** or give second chances in the future as ufc will be the in thing. Trust me jeff, its deeper than FW, too many brit promoters have rode the gravytrain for too long, the problems are deep rooted. FW will get his next star, but he wont make as much cash...

Khan had just lost by brutal ko1, and then his comeback fight was ppv £15 against an unknown, jeff £15 got you tyson vs lewis/holyfield and hatton vs tzuyu for **** sake. That is the biggest example of cashing in on the crowd i have ever seen. I couldnt give a **** about this 'never been stopped' 'he is considered durable' bull****. It WAS a mismatch period...

Did DeGale beat anyone of note in the games?

Not trying to disparage, but Khan beat a couple of pretty good fighters before losing to Kindelan.....
