"I know this is the fight Shane wanted and I know it is a fight Floyd wanted as well," said Schaefer to ***********.com. Golden Boy promotes Mosley and has a working arrangement with Mayweather. "So now I'm going to work and see if we can put that fight together."

Schaefer and Golden Boy still have the MGM Grand reserved for March 13 for Mayweather. But Schaefer wouldn't say whether Mosley-Mayweather would fill that date, or a different one, such as May 1.

"I think the first thing is going to be to see if a deal structure can be done, and then worry about the date," Schaefer said. "Floyd Mayweather against Shane Mosley is one of the biggest fights in the sport. They are two superstars, it would be a pick-em fight.

"The date will fall into place, but the first thing is to find a deal structure that is acceptable to everyone. That is what I'm working on."

Thats great news (I mean for boxing, not Berto`s family before any sick **** gets in there twisting my words).... I was in a bit of a boxing depression when the MP-FM fight collapsed & seen no credible available opponents for either guy, now we have FM possibly going against the man many feel has the best tools to beat him.... if FM makes this fight, he is almost forgiven for the collapse of the MP fight, I say almost because I still want to see FM v MP this year, not next year or the year after but this year.

Shane ducked Floyd in '99 and '06. Shane calls Floyd out after the JMM fight, and Mayweather decides to go after Pacquiao instead which he's got every right do. The Pacquiao fight doesn't happen, but Mayweather couldn't turn to Mosley because he was scheduled to fight Berto. Now that Berto's pulled out, yes it looks like it might happen. But can you see how it isn't Floyd's fault it didn't happen before?

I really do hope this fight comes to fruition. I saw a thread earlier titled something along the lines of "Schaefer: "Mayweather to make a big announcement in the next few days." I can't really see anything else that would constitute as "big" other than a fight with Mosley, so there's a further little tickle of evidence that the fight could possibly be on.

This could also work towards a later deal with May/Pac. Should May dispatch of Mosley, he'll have more bargaining chips when coming to the negotiating table, as in, he could well be the "official" p4p no.1. It's my personal opinion that the Pac camp on this occasion have been a bit 'awkward' with their negotiations in the May fight, and competition for the p4p crown might just push them into being slightly more lenient.

Mosley has never exactly been difficult to negotiate with. He's been perusing Pac/May for a while, offering to come down to 140 against Pac and agreeing to lower purse splits in the media. Should Mosley beat May, I'm confident he'll meet Pac in late 2010 without any negotiation issues.

As for March 13th, I doubt they'll fight on the same night as Pac/Clottey. PPV numbers can be contested across differing nights, competing on the same night I think would just damage the overall total PPV's for each bout. Not that it matters!

    Still, nothings been signed...

If the fight gets made it won't be for March 13.

    Quote from Schaefer

"I’m going to sit down with our marketing people, and our sponsors, as well, and determine what the right time frame would be to properly promote and activate that fight,” Schaefer said. “On the surface, with March 13 just around the corner, I don’t think that would be the right thing to do. If you’re going with a super mega fight like that to go against Pacquiao-Clottey. I think that would be totally wrong and I would not want to do that.”

Please...Floyd fighting Shane? Too little, too late. There is NO way Floyd gets full credit if he beats Mosley. People will say he beat an old version of Shane. I don't know why everyone is so excited about this fight. Mayweather beating Paul Williams or Manny Pacquiao are about the only fights I can think of at the top of my head that would truly earn him near unanimous respect.

Also, Mosley has to get past Berto, which not be as easy for him as people think. But, I wouldn't be surprised if Floyd opts to fight Shane even if Berto does win...I mean, he fought a Zab Judah that had just lost to Carlos Baldomir, so I don't think that theory stretches the imagination all that much.

Either way, Mayweather beats Mosley by UD.
