Now personally i think Ward takes this one... i saw that guy walk through hell fire in the first Gatti fight and i think that his straight right hand as well as his lethal left hook would break ricky down. I am not knocking Ricky... he was a good fighter buuuuttt, i just dont think his movement is enough to get away from a guy like Ward how can really break you down on the inside
I think Wards durability would probably end up getting to Hatton, and of course his body work. In his prime he could throw some decent combinations as well. I wouldn't give it to him 'easily', but I think Ward takes it.
I would have to say Micky Ward takes this probably by a stoppage to the body, Micky has been in there with some tuff cats and done very well in those fights, such as Augustus, and Antonio Diaz, he has also got a win over Gatti who can bang and box, which is not an easy thing to do. I like Micky style wise Hatton is IMO Tailor made for him.
your all a bunch of tits if you truly believe ward beats hatton. For ****s sake yes Hatton got destroyed by pac man but you'd think he was some kind of 2nd rate club fighter teh way he gets portrayed on here. wankers
As overrated as i think Hatton was he was still a legitimate world champ and the main guy at 140,Ward was exciting but he was basically a journeyman. We are talking two different class of fighters here, hes faster than Ward and more skilled than Ward if he fights smart he wins this pretty easily,he just has to look out for ward's left to the body and he will be ok.
I know its hard to accept your countryman might not win this fight, but lets be real Rickys best wins are a bit over rated, his best win really is against Paulie, but even that is really meaningless. You can argue Tszyu but Tszyu was over the hill, I mean you do know that Tszyu fought Roger Mayweather dont you?
at last some sense.. hatton is no p4p great but jesus he is several levels above ward. granted he gave us some of the best fights ever with gatti in terms of entertainment but lets face the facts they were 2 seriously shop worn fighters at this stage. if ward never met gatti would he even be getting discussed here ??? show some respect
This is one fantasy match that i would have loved to see. Stylistically, IMO, Hatton's consistant pressure and the way he likes fight on the inside would be right up Micky's allley. Consistent body work combined with his physical and mental toughness... Ward via close UD or late stoppage... btw a UD could go either way in this fight but I dont see Hatton stopping Ward.
I know hatton hating has become the recent ESB passion, but Hatton at his best was a very dangerous fighter. While I like ward, he seems to me to have to many limitations to overcome. great heart can only take you so far. Hatton by wide decision, and I would not be surprised if hatton wears him down at stops it late...Ward's best recourse seems to me..to negotiate 10 rds and give a gritty performance while taking his lumps. Over 10 he has a better shot in my book!
Look Ricky jumps in with his shots, usally one shot at a time, usally the left hook, usally he drops his right hand when he is comming in like that, which is why he was knocked the **** out twice, he has more holes in his game than Ward does. if anything Ward does keep them hands up, and knows somewhat how to box as well, but wont need to because Rickys style will mesh perfectly with ward, Great fight no doubt, all out war. I just favor ward over all becuase he can take the shots and score his own, I dont know how Rickys power is when you compair it to Gattis, but I am sure Gatti hits harder, in addition like I said Ward did very well against fighters like Antonio Diaz, and Emanuel Augustus, forget EA though, Antonio Diaz back then was one tuff SOB, and Ward could have a W on his resume in that fight, it was that close. Again Ricky just has too many holes IMO doesnt make him a bum it just means styles makes fights.
All depends on who imposes their strength first and who hits harder earlier, especially to the body. It would be an all out war, I like Ricky in this one though because I feel he's more capable of imposing his strength and working better right up on the inside.
prime Ward against today's Hatton might have a small chance of pulling the knockout, just because Hatton's punch resistance has dropped significantly. Other than that, Hatton destroys him, but it would be entertaining.
