Alright, now that we've seen how hypocritical Pac and his team have been with their obvious lies and cheating (exhibit A: Pac's interview w/ Bryan Kenny), let's go ahead and discuss something a little different.

I've noticed that there are some fighters who do tons of roadwork to get ready for a fight and gas out pretty easily. For example, guys like Zab, Quartey, Ouma and Clottey are well known to jog anywhere from 8 to 12 miles DAILY! That's ****ing insane and all of them have **** poor conditioning.

On the other hand, guys like Floyd, Toney, Hopkins, Williams may put in some roadwork (1.5 to 3 miles) but focus in on putting that work at the gym with hundreds and hundreds of sparring rounds. Yet their conditioning / endurance is top notch and you never see these guys tired.

What do you guys think? Is roadwork overrated? Shouldn't guys be honing in on perfecting their craft (i.e. actually boxing and not running)?

its all about High Intensity Interval training but roadwork is essential. Its the gas to your tank.

It's not a replacement for the work needed in the gym. I'd say in today's age it's underrated.

Toney never did roadwork and was able to box for 12 rounds.

Yet that Akon looking *****n Clottey runs like 12 miles daily and is gassed halfway through the fight.

Explain that Dr. Sweet Science. So I guess in order to train for a fight I should be running since we all know that will help your fighting skills.:tired

yes road work while imortant is not as important as most say or think. A combo of roadwork and swiming is the key IMO

    thats the key.

Just running for 4-5 miles at the same pace day after day after day is a waste of time if you dont change it up and add in the interval training

Old timers like Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson and many others did lots of road work and fought high intensity 15 round fights at a pace much more intense than a Mayweather or Hopkins fight so I wouldn't say road work is overrated compared to modern methods. The two most important things to do in training in boxing is #1 sparring and #2 road work

    Hey Chef,

What kind of interval training can the average joe do at a gym or outside? Do you mean like mixing up jogs with sprints?

Jogging in itself can help you lose weight though, correct?

You say swimming because of Wlad. He looks good for a heavyweight (No fat-rolls, etc) but his stamina is not something I would want to emulate.

correct running helps in burning calories which helps you lose weight

Correct. Mix it up... sprints jogging then sprints.... also movement around the ring (30-40 minuts straight) with 2.5 - 5lb weights on your wrists and ankles works well also

Wlad has not had stamina issues for years. Since we got him to add swiming it has helped out alot. Its also NO impact on his joints which is key for a guy of his size

chef what does manny steward think of road work?

does he stick to the old school methods with long miles?

or has he incorporated high intensity stuff in his training?
