So you change your tune now.

Thats double what he made fighting Cervantes a year earlier mind you ...If Aaron was so confident of winning, he should have taken the fight..then the big paydays would have come rolling in.

He also turned down $750K to fight Duran...He could fight but was a bitter, egotistical little coke head.

Make it 10x. Because Pryor only made 50,000$ against Cervantes.

Not to mention that Leonard actually called out Pryor after the Hearns bout. Said he would use him as a tune-up for a potential Hagler match-up.

    Nice backtracking. :lol::lol::lol::rofl:rofl:rofl

No he couldn't, that's the point. The only fighter who offered him (slightly) more money that year was Duran, but Pryor turned that down as well. He went on to fight Dujuan Johnson and Miguel Montilla instead.

Who else was offering him $2 mill at that time?

Only if you're incapable of logical thought.

No, he offered him the biggest payday of his life to that point, by far.

He knew he wouldn't take a career high payday? :nut

That would certainly be a lot closer to the truth, and make a lot more sense.

I have and thats why im saying that they were great talents and had some good wins but they are not as great as you guys claim. In that case why dont any of you put a prime Donald Curry,Michael Nunn,Meldrick Taylor, etc etc etc on the same pedestal. I just saw a Couple of Conteh fights posted on here in the last couple of weeks against Hutchins and i forgot the other guy. Also saw him back then so whats up with the smart ass Comment "Why Dont you just watch them fight and come to your own conclusions" Also have seen some of Lionel Roses fights. So save that comment for some other MOF.

So Sweet Pea are you trying to tell me that you know the finer points of the sport so much more than many of the historians that have been watching Boxing before your Parents were even dating:huh:-:)lol: Havent youve been watching boxing for like 5 years or something like that:think

Curry, Nunn, taylor and others that could be judged wasted potential have at least as many fans those two imo.Far more so i'd say if you are counting the general forum as well.Well naybe not Nunn, but the other two i've always thought were well regarded.

Yes, I know the finer points of boxing better than any boxing historian. I've just got it like that.

On the real though, a lot of people, myself included, do rate Curry very highly at least among those mentioned. Why I rate Conteh highly is that he never really showed many weaknesses in the ring at all. His potential was wasted due to his lifestyle, not his in the ring short-comings.

I have a problem with a lot of fighters who weren't even the best fighter in their division for more than a year getting a lot of praise.

On the classic forum, if the fighter fought more than 25 years ago, they get overrated. In the general forum, fighters fighting now get overrated.

Obviously fan groups of certain fighters overrate their fighter.

Also their is a tendency for certain people to try and "discover" a fighter that they feel was overlooked in their time. Hyping a fighter off of the conventional path some times leads to overrating of a previously underrated fighter.

To me if a fighter can't get over and be a dominate for at least three years, he can't be considered great.

Yeah Pryor only made 50,000 for Cervantes and 500,000 for Sugar Ray Leonard would have been a career payday at the time. But he wanted a million dollars for a fight with Leonard or Duran. It's not that he didn't want to fight either guy, he just wanted the same type of money they got.

 Please, your little one liners "yes, he was" are a joke

Wonder if Lalonde got more than 500 grand?

Bottom line: Pryor walked up to him face to face and issued a challenge. Ray turned it down flat and he did it while the cameras were rolling

Even if I hadnt seen it I knew Ray didnt have the guts with his so called offer-not only a joke but an insult

Kalule got a reported 150,000$ for the Leonard fight, probably more, but it shows he had more guts taking that fight than Pryor did.

Also buying into supposed "call-outs" is so naive at this point. It's what happens at the negotiating table that matters, and we know that it was Pryor who turned down a legit offer to fight Leonard.

I wonder how a 500,000$ offer to a title holder a division below who was not a name by any means and whose previous biggest purse had been 50,000$ is such an insult.

Sonny Carson's success against you in this dialogue, appears to be on a par with Custer's against Crazy Horse,at the Little Big Horne.

I would object to most of the names given in this thread so far.

An octopus couldn't hand out the number of slaps that are owed in this thread.
