Where the **** have you been recently!

Or is it me that's been AWOL:lol:

Very good thread though, as it's a good question.

The oft-quoted McGrain line 'Boxing's not Maths, it's Music' (I may be paraphrasing) is none more appropriate than here, although Anarci has his reasons to be fair to him, even if I disagree with his standpoint:good

    Lopez by miles.

    Calzaghe's resume is full of....

    A. Old men
    B. Never were's
    C. Fighters at the end of their usefulness

Many of his opponents fought him on a run of losses, or had been stopped several times.... Hopkins beat him, the list of opponents in the 'Not Fought' category is probably stronger than the 'Fought' one.

Not many fighters that are classed as elite/ATG can have that written about them.

There aren't many guys that Lopez didn't face, those that he did were dealt with in convincing fashion, generally.

Sorry Beeston, but gotta disagree. Lopez waited around in a division even more stale than the one Calzaghe stuck around in, and never made any effort to move only a few lbs north and face the two best fighters around his time.

I agree that Lopez was the better fighter; but they're nowhere near as far apart as you seem to think........well IMO anyway:good

Lopez is guilty of the same thing...whether its his fault or not.

He didnt fight Gonzalez, Carbajal, Baby Jake etc ...could have fought Vorapin in his prime.

He cleaned house at straw but it wasnt much of a house...not when light fly was pretty **** hot at the time.

I agree with everything you have said about Joe C... but I disagree with what you have said about Lopez. Lopez did not fight two of the best fighters of his generation that he easily could have fought - Carbajal and Gonzalez. Calzaghe's resume is weak, but it still has the edge on Lopez's IMO.

Everyone on the forum seems to beat this like a dead horse(Lopez Competition) He wanted to fight those guys but was held up in contract obligations by Don King who didnt want no part of dealing with Arum, plus at the time Chiquita and Carbajal were more well known than Lopez and would make more money fighthing each other instead of fighting Finito and losing. Those guys wanted no part of Finito, especially Chiquita dont remember the details but i remember hearing something to that effect back then.

Fair enough, but the fact remains he did not fight either of them, and his resume/legacy suffers as a result. He was a better fighter than Calzaghe imo, but he just didn't prove it against top comp often enough.

Lopez COULD have achieved more. But ifs and buts dont count for much at the end of the day and Calzaghes win over B Hop puts him ahead i feel.
