Holyfield. He's got the tools to bully the bully. Faster hands, iron jaw, decent punch, awesome third fist work, points win at the least. I can see Liston completely melting down with Holyfield after trying to blind him doesn't work.
I'd pick Holyfield as well. He's roughly the same size (which only a handful of Liston's opponents were), plus he's quicker, more versatile, and can be much better counted on not to quit.
Holy is too quick / fast and had skill in his peak yrs............ Liston had a great jab and power, but was slower by a mile........ Holy too mobile to get caught by Liston....... Holy school's Liston by way of frustration on the part of Liston....... Peace........ MR.BILL
If one of Ali's greatest wins was over Liston, and Holy beats a prime Liston too, where should Holy be ranked?
Holyfield would relish this matchup:yep I know this is gonna sound cliche but this is kind of like Holy/Tyson not just a in a psych terms but in the ring believe this Holfield will force his will on Liston but also in a skillful way im thinking. I think Liston makes a good go for the first 4 rounds then i see Holy doing better and starting to get in Listons head , Liston gives it a good go even staggering Holy a few times but i see Holy coming through in a great fight and stopping Liston in 10 or 11.
I intentionally avoided a poll because I wanted people to elaborate a little on their answers with a poll it becomes too much like a yes-no situation which would be uninteresting to me.
I agree with the general sentiment, I believe Holyfield would take it - which does bring up the question also mentioned, is Evander often underrated?
They're not 'roughly' the same size.Liston had the same heaviness of bone structure as George Foreman. You have to take into account modern use of supplements when comparing the sizes of fighters from different generations.
Interesting point Taking it further you could argue Evander had a shot at every heavyweight in history..... Just a thought
