Malignaggi's name got broadcasted all over the world when he was named as Pacquiao's potential opponent. There were graphics with their faces side by side on the front page of Yahoo, ESPN, and on Filipino TV. :rofl

 

Honestly I don't think it stuck with the general public, given how many news reports on the whole issue were coming out on a daily basis, it just got lost in the whole mess. Heck, I didn't even remember him on any local newspapers in Manila or on the news shows, either it was only shown once and i didn't see it or it just didn't register. Do you really think that many people would suddenly start following Paulie's statements after briefly being mentioned as a potential opponent? A few maybe but I doubt it was enough to make him famous enough to warrant such attention.

Even in the most articles, whenever the steroid accusations are mentioned, it's usually made in reference to Floyd Sr's statements and not Paulie's. An odd article here and there, mostly in boxing sites, but not much by comparison.

He got about 2 seconds of exposure, but it was exposure. Maybe enough for people to scratch their heads for a second when they hear his name. Problem is it was big exposure, even if it was brief. That would be enough for some folks upset enough about an issue to sue. It absolutely is in the mainstream. They don't get to hear Malignaggi saying anything about steroids though, because no network would run it. He isn't important enough for that kind of story, so you're right in that sense. The boxing community certainly knows Malignaggi though, and that's the fallacy. Malignaggi might have been made reference in some mainstream articles as well. The growing list of accusers articles that may have been out at the time.

 

Yes the community. But compared to the more casual followers of boxing, the "boxing community" isn't all that big compared to the casual fans who know only the big names. The few seconds of exposure is probably enough to make the casual fan go "hey, that Paulie guy sounds familiar..." but it probably ends there. Again, this is just my opinion, but based on my talks with friends, family and officemates who are not part of the "boxing community" he was barely a blip in the radar.

 

Paulie is a big attention *****, nobody's taking him seriously. Not team pacquiao.

 

Now i really wouldn't mind if Khan annihilated him.

 

Malignaggi, no one sued you because defamation of character only counts if the idiot actually has any weight in their punches. (pun definitely intended)
