What did you do? what was the routine?

How did you felt you did? Was the atmosphere amicable or hostile?

Would just like to hear other people's experiences.

Hmm well I remember being overboard nervous, then I was taken into the ring for some 1 on 1 time going over the jab, then stepping forward backwards and side to side, then jabbing while stepping.

i'd already tried boxing when i was at school for a few months with out actually fighting or having a medical so when i started again at 19 i didn't have to go through that awkwardness with your hand and feet again.

My first day the gym was routine, learnt basic stuff etc

It was my first spar that might interest some of you. I sparred a local fighter and got belted for most of the first round, then came back and bloodied his nose. He got mad and pinned me on the ropes and landed 7-8 shots before the coach told him to ease off. We went back to circling and he he outboxed me again.

Second round I was out of gas and got dropped with a straight right. I got up and had no defence and went wild with haymakers, landed one and the kids glove touched the canvas. He was f*cking angry that this newb just caught him, and the coach even cheered me on further infuriating him. He stormed at me and faked upstairs then got me with the fabled left hook to the liver....I went down and I think I blacked out.

No, I always thought that boxing meant constant sparring. So I thought I was just going to get my ass whooped every single day

  11. Was shitting myself walking there, I wasn't worried about not being fit or skipping as I knew both of those it was just intense thing I built up in my head. Boxing gyms are noisy and filled with tough mother****ers.

Basically I did a class of boxing conditioning(not boxing technique), I came with my mate who was a fighter and had to look good, i tried my arse off and decided to take the second class on the same day and eventuelly fell over in cramps all over the body in front of my future(and skeptical) coach.

Went to the gym kecking myself, came out glad i went. I dont think anyone ever goes to a boxing gym for the first time without being curious as to whats going to happen there, but your there to learn, and if you go with the attitude to work hard, you'l get along just fine. As for not knowing how to skip, punch or whatever, i could not skip for ****, and when i did i looked like an idiot, same with my punches, but over time, youl be taught these things. Everyone starts somewhere. The gym i went to was pretty freindly as well, they didnt tolerate people there to just mess around, but generally everyone there were decent guys.

It was awesome. I fought a heavyweight on my first day. He outboxed me first, but then I caught him with a big hayemaker. He stumbled back, I went in for the kill, but walked into a monster right hand myself. We traded for seven more rounds, my trainer was rooting for me in the end.

    Oh wait, wrong alias.

Honestly though, I can't remember the first day I went there. It must have been some bag work, and I probably looked shittier than you can imagine.

walked in, scared. went to a trainer who was watching others and told him i wanted to box. without looking at me he asked me what i knew about boxing. reluctantly, truthfully, I told him, "Nothing."

he finally looked at me, smiled and said "perfect". then sent me to go buy him a coffee.
