Crazy! I use to live on Montellano Dr. off Camino del Sur.

I love that city man, I had some great times there.

Are you Latino? If so, why'd you pick a Polynesian word (which, depending on the specific language & context, could be a racial slur) for your screenname?
    Just was wondering...

    Yeah, I'm Mexican American.

I grew up around a lot of Tongans. Not sure it was racial, I thought it meant dirty or black.

    Matausi lemo ;)

Once again as I brought up on page -blah blah-, Do you guys think the recent influx of Cuban born fighters will give birth to a new rivalry?

I'd have to imagine stuff like Arreola-Solis and Lara-Angulo might bring forth a brand new rivalry

Yeah, got some Tongan friends too; plus a natural interest in all human languages.

The definitions vary, depending on context. I've been told & have read:
"black" and "dark". Well, that's "Uli" actually. So Uli uli is like saying "black-BLACK" or "dark-DARK". Hence, "blackie" & "******".

Uli means "black" in Samoan as well, but I think Samoan also has the alternate definition of "dirty". Not sure, tho.

Anyway, sorry to siderail the thread. Thanks for the info.

nah, they need a few more years before they can start messing with the big boys....plus, most of their styles aint to fan friendly...as of now, gamboas is, but once his chin gets touched up a few more times, he will turn into a casamayor type of fighter......lara's good, but tends to lower himself to his opponents skill level.....solis is gonna balloon up to 400 pounds and never fight again......stalin lopez is gonna get his ass ko'd by my boy josh marks tonight in miami...........and a few other cubans have already been put down, including some olympians.......so to answer your question.................NO !!!

Its probably going to create a new rivalry and lets hope it does. Cuban are some really good boxers and have good work ethics. If you look at their history in the Olympic Games, they always do good.

That's a little biased view in my estimation. A really biased one. Gamboa is alone is a higher rated prospect in my estimation than any Mexican or P.R based prospect.

Not to mention it really only takes ONE major fight to spark a rivarly.

Margarito vs Lara or Cotto vs Lara...I could see those fights sparking a new money maker for boxing.

you're right, all it takes is one fight to stir up a rivalry....but not everyone fights like gamboa which is why i say that.....can you imagine a war between gamboa vs lopez or gamboa vs soto......only to have guillermo rigendeoux fight another pr or mex and stink up the joint.....cause let's be honest, guillermo was a great ammy, but it looks as though his style aint gonna be suited to good for the pro's...........

i know that, but IMO it has also ruined the chances of them having many great fighters.....i mean, in cuba they train strictly for the am's and nothing else......most of them end up with a pitty pat defensive style, and that's not good.........i hope it does happen, it'll be good for the sport but i'm just stating my opinion........the pr vs mex rivalry has been going on for decades with no sign of slowing down, so it's gonna be very hard for another country to live up to the hype the ricans and mexicans have created........
