How does chopping wood help your punching power?

    Several past and present fighters do it/did it. Shavers is the first that comes to my mind.
    But I don`t understand how that works.

    utilizing the same muscles involved in punching in an explosive manner
     
  3. THats basically it, Theyre plyometric exercises recruiting similar muscles used in explosive punching movements.

    The word "explosive" used to describe physical activities other than things actually combusting really annoys me for some reason.

    Chopping wood is considered one of the most demanding exercises in terms of wattage.

    Interestingly, when Lumberjacks only had Axes, they were top of the list for Jobs that gave Heart failure :rofl. True.

    It's hitting. You are hitting with an ax. It will condition your core muscles, your leg muscles, your shoulders, your forearms. Some guys swing a sledgehammer instead. Also, you're coordinating your body movements to maximize your leverage. It's just basic hitting. Hitting is hitting. Somebody who can hit a ball far would be more likely to be an explosive puncher than a modest or light hitter.

    Chopping wood is ESSENTIAL for a fighter.

    Chopping wood probably gave me my KO punch, if I hadn't chopped wood I would have lost many fights.
