exactly mate, pitting a prosperous young challenger against an over matched lithuanian journeymen an charge £15 for the privilege. what happened to fighting whoever was in your path and fighting to prove you are the best in your region, country, continent, world. Khan never proved he was the best in manchester (murray), country (thaxton at time), continent (yuri romanov at time). warren is a coward and its about time it snapped him back in the arse after teh way he treated the fans by ripping them off.
I love that article. A huge rant and then summed up at the end with the sentence 'But he's great for boxing and I hope he does well' I wonder how much Frank would really be disapointed if Amir was KO'd in his next fight? :hey
This is just the beginning. Khan will get it good and proper in the next weeks to come. So no more warren ppv shows?
Saw Wank Warren at terminal 5 heathrow yesterday, looked like he just arrived, i was on mobile at time or would have defo asked him about khan! also how long before warren changes his tune: " But he is very talented, great for boxing and I genuinely hope he does well" http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...-much-for-the-loyalty-Amir.html#ixzz0dQd3nby9
It's not as bad as I was expecting. His dig at DLH was a bit unfair, saying he doesn't know how to pick opponents...... IMO he has cherrypicked the best opposition pretty much throughout his career, with the odd tune up here and there. I guess this highlights the problem with 'exclusivity' contracts in boxing and the power balance lying too far in favour of the promoters. The fighter wants to make changes to his career, and is all of a sudden left in a difficult position, in which he has to make a choice, knowing full well the promoter has a propaganda column in a red top to vent his spleen over the issue. For what it's worth, if Khan wants to go to America and Warren doesn't, then why not an amicable parting of the ways? I've been a Khan critic throughout his career, but must say he's remained dignified over the issue, he hasn't come out in the press making provocative statements...... as for his head being turned, he's 23 years old, not 12, and he is the one getting punched in the face for a living.
My favourite parts of the Warren 'piece': If Khan does avoid Maidana, these are the beginning of Warren's 'Khan's ducking a dangerous puncher' seeds: 'Looking back, it seems that the root of the problem is a mandatory title defence against Maidana that was ordered by the WBA last summer, when Khan won his crown against Andreas Kotelnik.' 'But the Khans picked a trainer recommended by David Haye and Adam Booth, who was unheard of. Not to mention an opponent I was unhappy with. Against my better judgement, THEY insisted on the fight.' In other words: I am absolved of all blame for making that fight and those two are to blame again! The slyest of sly digs right there! 'It was obvious what was going on and that Roach has had a hand in it all.' That ******* trainer! He should get some blame as well This is the most telling and it's on why Khan would choose GBP: 'Yes, they have blanket dates with pay-per-view giants HBO'. Say no more, Frank. I'm convinced that the last point is one of Khan's biggest motivations and reasons for signing with GBP. Could Warren also get Khan on a big undercard in the States any time soon? Let's face facts, Warren mentioned names Khan could face in the UK as that is where Warren is most effective; for all the stick he gets, Warren is BY FAR the best promoter on these shores, but that's where his influence ends. I don't get it either. If I am offered more money to do the same job elsewhere, then the decision is an absolute no-brainer. **** 'loyalty', if your boss can find any reason to get rid of you then they'd be the first person to get rid. Warren has had a massive hand in Khan's career and I also think that he is right about being the only promoter over here who could have got him a title shot so soon after being sparked by Prescott. That said, Khan owes Warren **** all. Warren made plenty of money for himself off of Khan's back as well.
I just don't understand why he didn't use Warren in conjuction with Golden Boy ? Surely that would be a nice little partnership for both. I mean it wouldn't hurt DLH and GBP to send some of there boxers over to our shores would it ??
Maybe it would have been. At the end of the day, the decision may have come down to something as simple as money in the end. We don't know how much of a cut Warren was taking from Khan's fights either. I personally think it's a combination of GBP saying that they could get him fights on HBO at American venues and also against bigger names. They have the kind of influence in America that Warren can't compete with.
Yeah I know what your saying pal. Maybe it was ego's or maybe Warren not wanting to split rights/vice versa. Anyway who reckons we may not see Khan in the UK again ? His "I'm not a superstar in the UK because of Racism" coupled with him living over there and now being promoted over there" I wouldn't be suprised if Khan never fought in the UK again (Unless he gets knocked back to reality in the next couple of fights )
Whilst i can see why Khan wants to go to the USA, i think it is awful how they didnt let Warren know. Warrens column wasnt as bad as i thought i t was going to be, but i kind of feel a little sorry for the bug eyed man. What i think is clear though and i do agree with Warren is Roach may be getting a little to involved with his fighters careers and he himself is acting at times like a bloody diva.
I saw this coming for some time now ever since Roach took charge as Khan's trainer, Warren also knew this but now is trying to make out like it was a shock to him. Fair play to Warren the way he got Khan the title shot after the Prescott loss 2 fights before was pure class. But boxing is business now and boxers dont have years and years of fights in them, it could all be over in 1 fight, 1 round, 1 punch and you got to look after yourself and find the best deals. Promoters find new talent but fighters only have a short time to make their name, frame and money.
