Duran at 135 had hellacious power. Chavez's face would have been flayed open

I was laughing until I realized that you were probably serious, then I just became sad for you. You poor, poor, man. How horrible it must be to go through life as an utterly clueless ass-hat. I can't even imagine your pain.

bro, what duran did was amazing and i aint even trying to discredit him....but you cannot, i repeat CANNOT use what he did above 135 against chavez.....prime 4 prime and p4p those two men were beasts at 135 and no way in hell can you say one man wins clear...if what duran did above 135 really matters that match, then he would've ko'd everybody in his path prior to getting there......he went the distance with guys that can't even carry jc superstars spit bucket, so to say he would stop chavez is pretty stupid......

In his title defenses...when it really mattered...who exactly?

One person went the rounds with him at lightweight in his title fights.

Yes, his incredible resume as LW champ, where his opponents combined won-loss record is an astounding 65-958-8 (or thereabouts) and he rarely weighed less than 140 lol...

Thinking Duran beats JCC just because he grew into a middleweight is the same as thinking Pacquiao should have stomped JMM because he grew into a welterweight. ******ed.

Say goodbye to your creditability :hi:

You could argue this for JCC properly if you wanted...but obviously you just dont have the intelligence.

    You're a hater...an old balding hater. :tong

Duran wins easily.Greatest lightweight ever. One of the top 10 of all time. One guy went the distance with him in a lightweight title defense.Duran's defenses were all at 135,same day weigh-in.His non-title fights were over the limit.Duran fought often.Chavez quit against Oscar at 147.Duran would have eaten Oscar at 147 if motivated.Chavez was never hit by anyone who hit as hard as Duran at 135.Duran by stoppage.

Would be a war, and Chavez was a hell of a combination puncher, strong as an ox and under-rated defensively. But everything he does, I feel Duran does maybe a little bit better in most departments, and I think his better D and his dirty tricks would see him edge to a decision.

A very close fight over the first 10 rounds with Duran edging most of the them. After that Duran either stops him or wins all the remaining rounds

Duran, but on a decision. The JCC chin is being completely underrated here.

    I like Chavez.

But there are some out there like the Pro-Chavez (nothing wrong with that) crowd who now want to discredit Duran by saying, "take the Leonard win away..."

Chavez would never beat Leonard. You would argue if he would even beat Ken Buchanan.

A 140 Duran does not look as silly at times as Chavez looked v Taylor.

Some are critizing Duran from being starched by Hearns. Wait a minute, Chavez had a great jaw, but he gets KO'd by that right hand that flattened Duran. Remember, it is a prime fast murderous powering 154 Hearns. Some act like that couldn't happen to Chavez. A 147 Cuevas had an as good chin as Chavez prior to Hearns and he was starched also.

Remember a prehistoric Duran at 47 managed to drop Vinny Paz at 168.

Who has Chavez fought that hit like Hearns, Hagler, Barkley or even Leonard for that matter? Only Hearns KO'd him. How many ATG of that standard did Chavez fight? At 31 Chavez was cut to sheds by De la Hoya, but i certainly don't hold that against him. He was past it against a much larger fighter, and the Tzyzu fight. But remember at age 37 and at 160 Duran beat Barkey, who KO'd a guy who killed Duran in 2 rounds.

Chavez was a great fighter, but to say Duran didn't have a resume a 135 is a weak debate. Who did Chavez fight in his first 60 fights? What were their records? I don't think you will find a Dejesus or Buchanan in there.

Yes Chavez had a great chin at 135, yes Duran was dropped twice by Dejesus at 135, but Duran's chin was later proven against a 147 Leonard, a 154 Moore, 159 Hagler and a 160 Barkley at 37 when he was past his best.

    This is a high-quality post.

However, the first line makes me feel like I have an itch on my nose when there's three minutes to go skipping rope. I'm going to see if I can convince you to bet your house, car, and your wife on Duran beating Chavez.

Let's start with a direct point: There was nothing that Chavez did better than Duran. Duran was faster, stronger, better inside, better outside, better mid-range, better defensively, and a better counter-puncher. Their chins are comparable. Where else does Chavez measure up? Nowhere.

From there, let's look at dimensions. Chavez was a very sound technician. I was always impressed with how well-schooled he was whether he was under hellish pressure or just relaxing inside. The man was a textbook. But Duran was that and more. Duran was schooled by those two old men who had over a century's worth of knowledge that was deposited into his head. Add to that Duran's magnificent and rare ability to fight aggressively while maintaining elusivity and his uncanny ability to combine offense and defense in the heat of battle. Take another look at how fast his legs were and how agile he was against Leonard in Montreal.

--Chavez was one-dimensional. Duran? Well, he was 3-D.

Now, I am of the adamant opinion that an inspired LW Duran just ain't gonna be defeated by any man his size or smaller. DeJesus did, sure, but let's be straight here, Duran wasn't consistent in his training. He got away with it in his twenties, but when Duran was ready, it wasn't easy for Marvin Hagler himself to beat him. And that is just ridiculous when you consider that here was a man with a lightweight's frame. Duran was abnormally strong and you can see this in his ability to stand in there with Hagler and fight him close and then turn around and do what he did to Barkely. Chavez wasn't as physically strong. He had no answers for Oscar De La Hoya... he sure as hell ain't gonna last with a Hagler or a Barkley or even a Leonard. You agree with this part I know but think about it...

Chavez isn't beating Duran. In sum, fire melts ice.
