I am so gutted that Muhamad Ali never met Max Baer.

Can you imagine the press conference?

Even if their careers didn't overlap can you imagine two people who you would rather put in the same room?

I bet Ali would take all the fun out of it and make it ugly. He often did that when he felt challanged. I would bet on Baer taking the honours in the press-conference before taking a horrible beating over 15.

I'd rather have seen Johnson-Baer go through it to be honest with you, that would have been great fun, so would Moore-Baer.

Johnson edges out Baer on the suave prime v prime, Baer takes any other version of Johnson. Baer frustrates Moore inspite of the class gap.

Never mind that the fight would be a total anticlimax...that Ali would have outpointed Baer in every round and would have taken a unanimous decision....it would have been the wittiest, most hilarious meeting of wits between two master showmen that the sports world had ever seen. Pure comedy gold!!

Johnson would frustrate, discourage and outpoint Max.

Hey Fleaman How's it going? :good (who's that in your avatar pic btw?) - seem to remember reading a quote somewhere once (can't remember who by right now) but it was by someone who'd sparred with a 50ish Jack Johnson and also had sparred/or fought a young Max Baer and they said something along the lines of Maxie would not have laid a worth while glove on Johnson at his best - Johnson would also win the press conference too

I personally would like the press conference for Johnson against Ali while we're on the subject

How are you Janitor - I've always imagined a Johnson-Ali fight shaping up a bit like the early going in Ali-Norton I - with lots of probing for shots - Johnson trying to lure him in and both guys trying to out trigger each other, Ali trying a lot of lead right hands, and both guys playing a lot of games trying to make eachother commit first making it a difficult one to score - would love to see it though
