Kiah Mundine, 27, was allowed by a magistrate to walk free from court last week after pleading guilty to the assault. The incident happened after police tried to arrest a friend of Mundine's outside Privilege Bar on the corner of George St and King St, Sydney, last year. She admitted to one count of resisting or hindering a police officer and another of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, in the April 5, 2009, incident. Two further charges of hindering a police officer in the course of duty were later dropped by prosecutors in the Downing Centre Local Court. Magistrate David Heilpern granted Mundine a Section 10 order dismissing the charges, meaning no conviction will be recorded despite the admission of guilt. According to police documents, the fracas began at 1.40am outside the bar when Public Order and Riot Squad officers were called to a scuffle. When they arrived, they saw a man standing nearby - Te Rongonuil Atkins - who had allegedly been in a fight with one of the venue's security guards, who would not let him inside. The court heard that when officers tried to speak to the man, he became violent. The situation escalated with a number of people jumping into the melee, including Mundine. According to a sworn statement made by riot squad Senior Constable Jeremy Blanchard, Mundine tried to get in between the officers and Atkins, who was being arrested. "I heard the accused person (Mundine) say words to the effect of 'just f****** let him go'," Constable Blanchard said in the statement. "I took hold of her right arm and pulled her away from Senior Constable Thomas Woodhouse. "Mundine kicked me in the right leg. I immediately felt a strike in my right upper leg." Constable Blanchard said he was also hit in the head. "I felt my cheek and could feel blood coming from my face."
