YES! Hearns has a shot here....... Hearns looked good and strong in '87 against Andries for the title............. Hearns' jab would connect and get him respect from Braxton........ Braxton can not afford to jack around the ring; he has to take it to Hearns....... And Hearns' right paw seemed good to go in '87, as well.......

BOTTOM LINE..... Hearns' jab is tops, and his right cross is damn wicked upon landing flush, but would it bother Braxton at 175 is the question..... Hearns can out-box Braxton, but not out-fight him.....

A healthy Hearns at 175 in a 24 X 24 huge-ass ring, just MIGHT decision Braxton.......... A phone booth favors Braxton all the way......

    A toss-up.........

Qawi was like a mack truck at this weight and the Hitman gets caught in the headlights.

    Qawi KO 6 Hearns

qawi was short but a big guy. hearns is too fleshy at the wieght i feel. hearns boxes well until qawi catches up with him in a big way.

hearns didnt work well with pace. and his punch that usually kept swarmers off him didnt have as much wack at 174. barkleywho even though much taller than qawi almost ran over tommy in the rematch. only hearns handspeed and longer reach kept it relativly close in terms of scoring.

You think Hearns can't beat Julian Jackson yet he beats Qawi?

It would be tough for Hearns, but Tommy well prepared and knowing it is a big fight would do well if the 1987 Hearns fights Qawi. Hearns is greater than Qawi and the skill level might make this much closer than you guys all think.

I'm the biggest Hearns fan going but man, this is a real stylistic drama given some thought.

    1. Qawi often plants his head on your chest and looks to fight in close. Bad.
    2. Qawi is a superb body puncher. Bad.
    3. Qawi is naturally the much heavier/bigger man. Bad.
    4. Qawi has a GREAT chin and has taken myriads of blows from big men very well. Bad.
    5. Qawi has a tremendous defense and slips jabs well. Bad.
    6. Qawi is brilliant at slipping the right hand and coming back with his own. Hearns biggest offensive weapon is his right hand. Even Spinks shelved his great right hand a lot. Bad.
    7. Qawi has fantastic stamina. Bad.
    8. Qawi has very solid power. Bad.

This is a bridge far too big for Hearns to cross, tho i am enjoying the support for him. Qawi is substancially harder than Hagler for Hearns IMO.

Qawi vs Hagler would be interesting,it's a matter of the weight

How do you explain Hearns killing Duran, losing to Barkley, then Duran beating Barkley?

One could get into over a dozen points regarding Nate, Hearns and Qawi like age, weights, peak quotient and lots more but it's really so silly as to not need explaining.

I think it's a matter of styles, and how motivated a fighter is in the ring against that particular opponent.. Hearns is my favorite!! But Duran was not at his best agaist him,may have been a similar outcome though,Tommy was a monster that June 15th in 84,sort of like Hagler was against him on April 15th of 85..
