I disagree that he was featherfisted

Pep was an alright puncher IMO, his power is massivly underrated.

    the ultimate choices

    Could Eddie Booker be counted?

If Archie Moore, "Kid" Matthews, Shorty Hogue had glass chins. Booker seemed to be a decent puncher to stop those men.

I'd say it's quite a stretch to classify the likes of Pep, Gavilan, Whitaker as feather-fisted. All of them certainly earned the respect of their opposition with the punching power they possessed.

Even Holman Williams was a fair puncher if not for his hand troubles but he is no doubt a more deserving mention. Tommy Loughran and Maxie Rosenbloom too. The likes of Malignaggi and Calderon couldn't hurt their opponent no matter how hard they tried. That's "feather-fisted".

No, I guess not. But he was a greatly successful fighter that didn't really have much power. Feather fisted is probably too strong. But how many ATG fighters are really feather-fisted. Even Pep being nominated seems like a stretch to me.

Tommy Loughran was better than Gene Tunney in virtualy every respect except that Tunney hit harder.

If Loughran had Tunneys power then he would have been almost unbeatable.

Buchanan and Calzaghe were not featherfisted.

And yes "Power Puncher" Calzaghe could punch at supermiddle . Hand problems caused him to be a volume puncher. Calzaghe had some good kos at SM.
Ok i think people are reaching now cause Buchanan was a decent puncher and Calzaghe was a good puncher at SM.
