This seems like a good match-up for Quarry... But would Quarry be winning handily and experience a lapse like the Chuvalo fight? In most cases I like Quarry here... What do you think?

Different eras, id say Baer would be rated much higher than Quarry on most list, but I didnt like Baers style against modern fighters, lot of guys in that era already had a modern style, but not Baer, although i know that he would be a big puncher in any era but i see Quarry Stopping Baer in 7 rounds Max would land some big shots and hurt Quarry a few times but i see Quarry Roaring back to Drop Max a couple times and beat him bad before finally finish him in 7.

Quarry is the most over-rated contender of the 1970's!!!!

Seems like every year he becomes more and more like Superman ffs

Max Baer, for all intents and purposes, could box and could slug it out with the best of them. His violence could be lethal, and I'm not just talking the one ring death in his career either. He chopped Tony Galento to bits, he was a mere bloody pulp. He blasted Max Schmeling all to hell and dropped Carnera 11 times. Even at Baer's worst, he still gave Lou Nova and Ben Foord a hell of a time in the ring near the end of his career. Even the "clown" version of Maxie Baer went 15 rounds with Braddock. He was no pushover.

    Baer TKO 5th over Quarry.

...If it makes you feel any better, I'd pick Baer over Quarry if it were a best hair contest any day.

Quarry by the time he fought Ali and Frazier and Norton was already shop worn and easily prone to cuts. He wasn't effective. The best Quarry was the one who fought Patterson. The Quarry die hards will point out Quarry knocked out Shavers in a single round, but people also forget despite Shavers 30 some kayos at the time, most were against third tier journeyman and he had major stmaina issues and always had a questionable chin himself.

Baer could take punches and could give them. Quarry was getting dopey when he fought both Norton and Frazier, legs turning to rubber and ****. And neither one of those men compare to the sort of power Max Baer possessed. Even at the end of his career, Baer was still able to pull off 'The Knockout of The Year' against Pat Comiskey, a well thought of and highly rated fighter. Quarry, near the end of his was mere fodder.

I think Quarry was a very good fighter. Baer did have an old school style, BUT he made it work against good technical boxers like Schmeling. I agree, a prime Quarry (like the one that stopped Mac Foster) may have made it interesting, but a motivated focused Baer would have been too much for him.

Quarry generally did well against sluggers such as Baer. He had boxed all his life and knew all the moves. Baer felt he did not need to learn any boxing in order to succeed but it only took him so far.

Jerry Quarry for a Braddock-like effort.

Thing with Baer is that he was eratic but Jerry had his share of those on-off fights. Gerry had a good chin and so did Max but on good nights for both Max would take the nod

Quarry's chin was equal to Braddock's but JQ had more firepower in his aersonal... Both men were inconsistent performers so anything is possible here.... If Max carries on with some dame in the dressing room then Quarry definitely taks it! LOL
There is rumor that this happened right before the Braddock fight.

I used to envision this matchup years ago and would always pick Maxie, until I actually had the time and capability to watch some of his old fights. Trusting my baby blues and doing alot of research, Maxie had one helluva punch, but was a counter-puncher's dream. Lou Nova realized this in both his stoppage wins over Baer. A big banger's bane is a counter-puncher with a good chin (or great defensive skills). Two of Jerry's most masterful performances were his counter-punching classics over Mac Foster and Ron Lyle. And if you think it's us today writing Maxie off, an old buddy of mine (he's 88 now) used to watch Max and Buddy back in the day and he used to laugh and mimic Max's wide open - hands at the hips - style. Prime for prime I'll go with Quarry by decision in a good contest.

A ****ing GREAT fight here............ But I'd bet on the '33 Baer over the '69 Quarry in the end............ Based on Baer's size, strength & power...... Quarry was tuff as nails and owned a good wallop himself, but he too, like Baer, was easy to hit, and Baer would hit him back harder...... Maximum Baer KO's Jerry Quarry in 6 or 7 rds......... Great fight......

The best Max Baer against the best Jerry Quarry and I would bet on Baer without hesitation. It would be a hell of a good fight to watch! :good

I think the key here is COUNTERPUNCHING...

Baer would be the aggressor, but if we look at what happened when big punchers charged quarry, they often ran into a lot of perfectly timed shots that provided most of the knockout power in and of themselves...

Baer was bigger, stronger, and perhaps even more durable than Quarry.. But, he was simply too defensively inadequate, and offensively unpolished to go out their and establish the kind of control that he often enjoyed setting up early..
