“A situation where they are on the same card would make sense....Let’s build up the fight” The above comment from Richard Schaefer suggests Khan’s US debut and the next defence of his title, will not be against the power house Maidana. Choosing instead to make it happen down the road. Now despite the fans demanding for this fight to take place, I can respect GBP’s reasons for not to. Just like Roach even said, it makes more sense to stage this bout in the next 2/3 fights, where the hype and demand would be even greater. Let Maidana and Khan notch up a couple of good wins on American soil, and then clash when their recognition and status has grown. Financially this option is more viable than throwing them in now when they are relatively nobodies. Furthermore, I’ve said plenty of times in the past, I don’t even think Khan is ready for the likes of Maidana, JMM or even Paulie. His wins over the past 12 months (Barrera, Kotelnik and Salita) didn't really dispell some of those questions marks hanging above his head. The jury is still out on Khan. In fact, I don’t think he should even be holding a belt just yet. So yeah guys, expect Khan to take a less risky bout (and rightfully so) for his US debut.
it makes sence to have him fight a bigger name and have maidana on the undercard to hye the future fight IMO i say he should fight JMM i think he wins this fight with sped and have maidana fight a beatable opponent on the under card
Build up the fight? like Maidana is a somebody :-( Maidana is akin to a tough contender like Ray Mercer who could give you a tough fight but ultimately lose, why are they making out they are building Mosley vs DLH.
Ugh! It's not like Maidana is a superstar attraction, Khan probably will eventually be if not already a superstar. Make this fight already, they are both champions make the fight.
Khan's matchmakers will always have to be extra careful in matching him. He can look great (Kotelnik, St Clair) against the right fighter, but is also easily exposed. With careful match making he'll have a fairly decent career, but I'll be amazed if he ever gets close to any P4P list in his career, as it will just be too risky for his promoters to put him in with a true boxer-puncher.
The thing i hate about some boxing fans is they want everything now sit back chill out and relax boxing aint go no where neither are the fighters im big boxing fan myself i want to see some good fights but everything don't need to happen this year and if you don't like it go watch those wrestle matches they call MMA
I was just about to say this. I like fighters to fight when it doesn't feel like it's all rushed. Yes, some stuff gets pushed way too far but both these guys are still young and are probably going to win next couple of fights, making this showdown so much more attractive.
What about facing your mandatory challanger? Maidana isn't even all that hot. There's loads of other top fighters that are more dangerous out there, people to build up to mega fights. To say they're building up to this is a joke.
Thats the problem with Boxing today, because the real fighters dont need to attach themselves to particular belt these days the belts can be won by guys like Khan and Berto and people will sit there and tell you, give him time let him develop, what! he is a World Champion not a prospect, right ? Thats the way Boxing is now days, very sad.:-(
