Cuba vs Puerto Rico, will Gamboa vs Juanma create that rivalry ?

Both are great representers of their islands, Gamboa of Cuba and Lopez of Puerto, now that a lot of cubans have defected and entered the pros, will this fight be the one to start of a rivalry that will do good for the sport ?

    I think so.

I tried to pose the question as to whether there could be a new rivalry developing either between Cuba and Puerto Rico or even Cuba and Mexico. I was sort of shot down about it by FreddyWak who brings up some interesting points.

Damn Jay where you been? We all thought you fell down a well or something.

Anyway I think we need to wait for the other Cubans to bulid themselves up then I think it could happen.

Yeah that was pretty lazy of me

    His argument was:

1- The Cuban fighters are still fighting an Amateur style and he sort of guessed/surmised they wouldn't make it long enough in a rivalry.

2- A lot of them don't have exciting styles (outside of Gamboa) and thus they wouldn't make for exciting fights.

3- Mexico vs Puerto Rico has been around too long for another rivalry to come close to it.

I'm not sure I agree but those were his main points of contention.

aqui estoy asere, tu sabe, siempre representando.

yeah good point, there are a lot of cubans in the pros now that were respected in the amateur world, everyone always wondered how they would do in the pros and so far Gamboa and Lara have both been very impressive so I think those two should represent Cuba very well in any rivalry, then we have my favorite and one to sure bring exciting to boxing Guillermo Rigondeaux, after those 3 fighters I think by 2011 there should be at least 3 more that we could talk about in the same level as Gamboa, Lara and Rigondeaux.

    I see,

well Cuban fighters are not fighting an amateur style, instead because they are sush respected amateurs people expect way to much of them in their first 3 or 4 fights.

in regards to they styles i dont think thats an issue because of the 3 big names now both Gamboa and Rigondeaux have very exciting styles, and of the young guns that most people have not heard of, they are coming out strong, and once they start appearing on ESPN trust me ESB will be talking about them.

its true Mexico and Puerto Rica have been around long enough but before Cuban were all stuck without the opportunity to fight pro, since 2007 there has a been a wave of defecting cuban's and I think the trend will only get stronger.

those two should be very exciting fights, I want to be scared for Gamboa against Juanme but i just can't see Juanma being able to withstand Gamboa.

and i dont think ill ever doubt Rigondeaux going into any fight.

Preaching to the choir. I believe Gamboa vs JML will kick off a new rivalry for PR and Cuba.

I also expect Lara vs Angulo to do the same for Mexico and Cuba.

I give JuanMa a better chance than everyone else is giving him but I see Gamboa beating him in the mid/late rounds.

Rigondaux, I have no doubt he will win.

Lara I don't know who to put him up against, I think he should go for Spinks but theres also Martinez, Angulo and Cintron.
