i've seen those quotes by him, he quite obviously just decided to find his little niche in the world by trying to sound intelligent and finding holes in SRL's career..... and he got in too deep and now believes what he says, he is obviously a stubborn man, as well as very dumb that or SRL raped his mother and sister
It's not as if Leonard was an awful fighter or anything. On the contrary: he was a excellent boxer. If people want to put him in their top 50, somewhere down the ways or so, then it really too much of a problem. It's when people put him in the top 10 or top 20 that the overrated problem comes about. Too many people rank Leonard too highly. It's not a knock on Leonard. It's just about being realistic about his record and accomplishments. If we can't separate hype from reality then the whole exercise of ranking fighters isn't worth much. Reputation is often out of phase with the truth about an athlete.
:good:good:good It was a big, big win for Duran. I will never slag off a boxer for stepping up to the plate, even if he losses. If every boxer was like Duran or Pacman, boxing would be in a better positsion than it is now. It's the Leonards\Calzages\Floyds of this world that I do not like. If they want to treat boxing like a business etc.. that is up to them, but they can't have it both ways. They can't pick and choose the best match up's for themselves, fake retirements etc... then expect to be ranked higher than the Duran's of this world who took on all commers. Duran got in the ring with a prime Hagler and took the fight to him, now there is some balls. He did not get the win, but he got a lot of points in my book.
He walked out in the midle of a fight, like a bully *****, when it wasn't going his way. That would be unforgivable for any other fighter. Ultimate role model? When he did beat SRL he showed very poor sportsmanship, pushing SRL after the fight and spitting at him. This would be unforgivable for any other fighter. When SRL made him quit like a *****, ten outclassed him in the 3rd fight, SRL hugged him and raised his hand. Going back earlier to the Buchanan fight, Buchanan was a very respectable quiet, humble fighter. At the end of several rounds Duran would shove him after the bell, well after they'd both stopped throwing punches, completely classless. He then ended that fight, not in an impressive fashion, but by a sickening, intentional low blow. As you nuthuggers like to bring up everytime he was KTFO or beaten, he trained poorly and poisoned himself with drugs and alcohol, much more than the average ATG ever would. Poor representative of the sport, of sports in general, a poor role model in terms of work ethic and moderation. How exactly does he fit your description as the 2nd coming of the lord jesus christ?
You said people who fail to respond to posts straightaway are ducking them, remember? :deal Nice change of tune.
Roberto Duran and Ezzard Charles are in no way overrated. Roberto Duran is the greatest lightweight of all time and Ezzard Charles the greatest light heavyweight of all time. That's absurd. Come one now. There isn't enough footage of Sam Langford, but his resume is impressive and I believe him to be one of the true all-time greats.
Just upset because you and your friends you brought over from the general and lounge sections havent been able to break me
Rooster you don't have to explain your absence to these people, you can't be on here 24/7 now. I never heard of a fighter being shot while not losing a fight in ten years and never taking a serious beatdown, but when he gets his ass beat by a super elite in Norris, they wanna claim he was shot, he was blind, he had lupus and a brain tumor and caught HIV in the process.:|
Yes he does, because he said in a previous post that he expects others to be on here 24/7 to respond to him. :deal :rofl:rofl:rofl You just heard ROOSTER say it about HAGLER!!! :rofl:rofl:rofl No, it was licensed doctors who said that part.
And it surprises me the fighter ranked 12th of all time according to you (for what that's worth) didnt make him blink with his best shots Once again Pea, who was it that wound up going to the mat, Ray or TN? You can try blaming it on his age but it really cant be held against him Duran was 38 when he beat Barkley for the championship. Ray had less than half his fights so asking Ray to fight competitively shouldnt be asking too much. Not to mention he was the heavy favorite. Duran did more than just put up a fight tho, he won against a younger man-another reason why Duran is the better fighter
That's their favorite and ONLY line: "Ray was shot" Duran was 4 years older than Ray and not only didnt he get run over, he won another championship. This is not to demean Ray but the comparison shows it can be done and that 34 years of age is not a death sentence for a fighter. Look at Jersey Joe. Sugar Ray just lacked that extra ingredient that his peers possessed. Maybe that's why he spent so much time avoiding them
