How would Marvelous do agaist the Camden Buzzsaw if he were to move up to LH. Both were in their prime around the same time Early 80s.
Hagler barely looks like a MW. He doesn't have the bone-density to move up. He can bulk up, but I imagine he would slow down big time. Qawi by decision.
What a tough fight for Hagler. It is hard to say. Qawi was like 5-6 and Hagler 5-9, and Marvin at 175 would be a solid guy. This is a tough one to figure. Qawi style at 160 would be Hagler by stoppage in the late rounds, but at 175 I still say Hagler could edge this one by close decision. Marvin had those long arms 75 inch reach. He would not be aggressive, but he would sit back and bust up Qawi and counterpunch. I actually think Hagler could beat Qawi but probably not Spinks.
Yey im thinking Hagler boxes him and does well early but eventually Qawi would press him wear on him a little and finish strong to win a tough but convincing decision. 8-5-2 Qawi
Yeah I could see that also. What a grueling fight. It would have been interesting to see Hagler against a guy he was not physically stronger than. He would have been the boxer in that fight for sure.
Well Hagler was Physically stronger than lot of guys he fought but not all of them. I think Roldan was stronger than him he had bull strength for a MW,Sibson was strong too.
Styles make fights...... Hagler gets murdered here......... Hagler was ripped solid at 157 to 160 pounds, and might've hung well at 165 to 168 pounds, but at 175, Qawi is too strong and powerful and takes Hagler out of there in about 7 or 8 rds.......... Qawi cannot dip below 173 pounds without losing strength, so the fight definately had taken place at light-heavy........ Qawi too much for Hagler.......... bbb MR.BILL
yeah you are right Roldan was strong, Sibson was strong although I am not sure stronger than Marvin. Hamsho was strong. Marvin had many of the aggressive strong to fight in his era. Roldan was so strong the power his punch not landing still made Marvin fly to the ground. As for Qawi or Spinks, I would have been very interested in seeing these fights with Marvin. I know Marvin was great, but to see him against bigger guys and tested would be interesting. Qawi I think was winnable for Hagler but Spinks was too tall and natural at 175. I think the Spinks Jinx might have been the punch to stop Marvin. I hate to say it. Marvin was so great that is not an insult on him, but Spinks was just so big.
I dont think this would be a good fight for Hagler. As far as i know he was a career middle weight so the move up would be hard for him.I think qawi probably gets it on points.
Like Monzon, I feel Hagler would be ineffective at the higher weight, even against a short opponent like Braxton
people forget that like hagler, Dwight could sometimes become disinterested even in the middle of a fight (Eddie Davis) He literally sleepwalked thru the entire Spinks fight. THis is where Hagler in top form will take it. This would be like his fight with Briscoe
Back around 1983,this fightr was discussed for a little bit,but died a death. Would have been good to see. I think it would go the distance, with the 'Buzzsaw' winning a toughly contested yet clear match. Qawi being the natural 175 pounder.
i agree. i don't understand some comments about hagler being a small middle though.he looked big enough to me:bbb
Agreed. Marv may very well have had a Toney caliber heavyweight chin. He had the lateral movement and long right jab necessary to do the job. Hagler was the greatest southpaw boxing had ever seen, and would pose the greater stylistic challenge in this war of boxing science as I see it. Make no mistake about it though. Hagler would need to be in top form to prevail.
